'Blue Dog' Dems nip at liberal agendas (Detroit News)
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 02:47 PM by PretzelWarrior
This article shows us we may end up with a fairly moderate congress that isn't going to allow all liberal fantasies to come true with an all Democratic Washington.

Conservative Democrats who've been a thorn in the side of liberal party leaders could grow into an obstacle to Barack Obama's agenda if he's elected president.

Majority Democrats are positioned for big gains in next week's congressional election. But many of the new faces would join a growing chorus of "Blue Dogs" who often part from the party base on big issues like taxes and increasing federal spending.

That could set up a roadblock for Obama, who has promised to broaden health insurance coverage, start a new round of public works projects and improve early childhood education, among other things -- all initiatives that would require substantial government spending.

6. Democrats in conservative areas ARE going to behave that way
they are largely representing the interests of their constituents.

This is why I'm saying governing from the center WHILE dismantling the apparatus of fear and ignorance is absolutely necessary.

If FoxNews and other conservative outlets see their ratings declining (which they do) and then they put on more reasonable programming and the ratings go back up, they will get the message.

More fundamentally, we need to OBLITERATE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND!!!! We need to get back to educating children holistically about the world they live in. They need to be good citizens and good human beings.
