Novak "And Newt shall lead them"
In serious conversations among Republicans since their election debacle Tuesday, what name is mentioned most often as the Moses, or Reagan, who could lead them out of the wilderness before 40 years?

To the consternation of many Republicans, it is none other than Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House.

Gingrich is far from a unanimous or even a consensus choice to run for president in 2012. But there is a strong feeling in Republican ranks that he is the only leader of their party who has shown the skill and energy to attempt a comeback quickly.

Even one of his strongest supporters for president in 2012 admits it is a "very risky choice." But Republicans are in a desperate mood after the fiasco of John McCain's seemingly safe candidacy.

Republicans appear chastened by the failure of seeking moderate, independent and even Democrat votes. They are ready to try going back to the "old-time religion."

1. Some article I read today claimed the Repubs will be focusing on marriage for 2012...
Apart from finding the URL as proof, I don't think anything else need to be said.

4. With a devastating thud
as Frank Rich, others too I am sure, they couldn't even get anti-choice measures passed

Fantastic article

By the time we get to 2012 I suspect that most people will be asking "Since when are the Feds involved in marriage?" There was no mention of the federal govt. at MY wedding.

3. I guess they don't realize that this election was also
a repudiation of newt "Contract with America". We have had eight years of scandal, disfunction and ineptness to last a life time. Repugs have ZERO moral standing or authority to perch their self rightoues bigotry from.

Go back to whatever exile you have been hiding under newt. Douche nozzle.

5. Minor correction needed...
Should read "Contract Hit On America", which is exactly what ole Eye-O-Newt used against us.

Yeah, hope he runs, alright, we can use the next eight to load up the dirt on that asshole!

8. Republicans are reactionary critters
When confronted with the knowledge they lost due to their platform being rejected by the overwhelming majority, they retreat back into a deluded belief they just werent conservative enough to win.

I hope they continue thinking that way, they will become completely irrelevant after the next round of elections sticking to that kind of thinking.

13. He's a dangerous little fucker - the only one they've got with any brains.
I too thought he would run in 2008 but he's definitely going to in 2012. I doubt he takes the RNC job as that would be a bit of a conflict with his obvious prez ambitions but he will be active. He'll build a national organization and fundraise for candidates all over and have a solid base when going into 2010-11. He's an impressive public speaker.

11. Yep, just what they need. Not a fresh new face with fresh ideas.
A conservative throwback with old, outdated, disproven ones.

Way to go, fellas!!!! :applause:

I guess that's why they're not called "progressives."
