Obama -- will you be our friend? (O'Doherty / Irish Independent)
By IAN O'DOHERTY
Wednesday November 12 2008

The election of Barack Obama -- you may have seen mention of it on the telly lately -- has brought up one vitally important question. And can you guess what it is?

Well, it's not when he's going to withdraw his troops from Iraq. It's not what he's going to do about the global economic crisis. It's not even what sort of dog he is going to get to be the traditional White House pooch. Nope, it would appear that the biggest question about Obama is a simple one -- will he be a friend to Ireland? ...

Well, according to one genius on Questions and Answers the other night, "Barack has relatives here in Ireland", presumably in reference to the fact that the leader of the Free World should base his policies on the fact that one of his distant, far distant, ancestors simply did the smart thing and legged it from the miserable hamlet of Moneygall in Offaly as soon as they could.

But we face a greater worry -- if Obama ever gets to hear the moronic, vomitous rubbish that is 'There Is No One as Irish as Barack Obama' then the chances are he'll attack the feckin' country rather than help us. And I can't say I'd blame him.
