President Bush Calls For Smarter Government
President Bush Defends Free Market, Calls For Smarter Government In Face Of Financial Crisis

In the midst of the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression, President George W. Bush is preparing for the Group of 20 summit, with leaders of the world's largest economies meeting to discuss the severe challenges facing the global economy. He spoke in New York Thursday, urging reforms, but advocating that the solution to the financial crisis will come with smarter, not larger, government.

President Bush's role in the summit is likely to be somewhat muted, however, due to the fact that he has entered the "lame duck" portion of his presidency....
