Dobson’s Focus Blurred, Epic Fail |
|
The whack jobs at Focus in the Family have gone out of their minds, and if they keep doing this they’re going to run out of minds someday. In a survey about what it means to hold a Christian worldview, they included literal interpretation of the Bible. Then they claimed, just one paragraph away, that Romans 13 exhorts followers to vote. http://allspinzone.com/wp/2008/11/17/dobsons-focus-blurred-epic-fail/

1. They'd be much happier, saner people |
|
if they focused on their own damn families.

6. Seems the moral thing to do |
|
So they're not about to go there, is my guess.

2. Well I just read Romans 13... |
|
It really isn't wildly right wing... EVen read thru the lens of a nonbeliever, (which I am not) there's not much here to fuss about...
Paul says that citizens should honor and respect the government... so to me that means the conservatives should respect the president elect... just like we DUers respected the Bushistas... (snark!!)
Paul also says that paying taxes is important... he doesn't use the word 'patriotic' but if they're gonna hold up Romans 13, then stop bitching about taxes.
Paul talks about the importance of 'love of neighbor,'and that strikes me as a progressive value... Paul doesn't say anything about judging or condemning those with whom you disagree.
He also says 'ixnay' on the reveling, drunkenness, debauchery, and licentiousness, quarreling and jealousy... but doesn't proscribe a tight, narrow life.
I think the issue is that Dobson, like all the conservative literalists want to interpret the Bible thru the viewpoint of the pharisees who kept Jesus under 24/7 watch: if you don't follow every detail of the law the way WE dictate, you're a condemned sinner. They want to call the shots.

3. They ran out of minds a long time ago; but you don't need a mind to be a Christian Rightie |
|
As regards 'Christian worldviews': I've seen one of their questionnaires. That included questions not only about literal interpretation of the Bible, but about political views. In order to have a Christian worldview, you HAD to have right-wing views, not only about the specific religious-right hobbyhorses, such as gay marriage and abortion, but about everything, including war, taxes, and the death penalty.
It was a big mistake for me even to go online to see that questionnaire, because for the last three years they've been spamming me with 'Worldview Weekend' Christian-Right crap. They ignored my requests to be taken off their list; but I eventually managed to set my spam filter to deal with it, so I don't need to see it any more.

5. Not exactly; I was on another forum, and someone posted the questionnaire |
|
and a lot of us responded out of curiosity, and then found we got spammed afterwards.
I don't remember my exact score for Biblical World View, but it was literally a negative number!
