4. Nothing has meaning or significance. It is often a naive reaction to finding out |
|
that you don't believe what you once did believe. I think nihlism is very common amongst newly skeptical Republicans; they will say anything, pose any argument, no matter how ridiculous. They naively think that since their truth, apparently, isn't THE Truth, then there is NO truth and all things, all propositions, all statements are allowable, because all are equally "true"/un-true. This is nihilism.

5. Quite a change of pace for Ms. Parker from her views in 2001. |
|
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/2001-10-01-ncguest1.htmI guess the shitstorm she got from her criticism of Palin caused her to reevaluate her previous fundie-pandering.

7. This is jaw dropping from Parker |
|
but reflects the power struggle going on in that party. Sides are being chosen and all that remains to be seen is which one inherits the reins of party power.
It's obvious that the religious right failed to be kingmakers this time. It's also pretty clear that the neocons are also out of favor. That leaves the fiscally conservative wealthy, people who have got to be rethinking economics after the last 2 years of one disaster after another.
The Reagan coalition is finally breaking down. It's scarred much of my adult life and I don't mourn its passing.
I just hope its replacement places a higher value on facts and the scholarship that uncovers them. Ignorance has served this country ill.
