Will Iowa Destroy the Republican Party, or Become Irrelevant?
Iowa is going to be a problem for the Republicans in 2012, as dominated as it is by the extremist Christian whack jobs. How many of their candidates who want to have a big tent will able to compete there? None. Even Mike Huckabee may have problems, given that he’s for a big old safety net. What do we call a fissured party?

2. Perhaps a third option
is that the GOP Party put on a clown suit and terrorize children.

3. They'd get more votes.
Or at least some press coverage. That's more than they're getting now.

7. Yeah.
OK, being facetious. But I'd think a clown campaign could be a winner.

5. Good article worth reading. And I agree with the premise that Iowa
will destroy the Republicans. Iowa Republicans are the kind folks that delight in running around on all four with blueberry stained undershorts and a two days of leftover hamburger helper in their hair. I grew up in Iowa and I can attest to the fact that once you get outside of the major work centers in the eastern or middle part of the state you best have a full tank of gas and pray that you don't have car trouble. There are some whacked out folks in Iowa that still believe that blacks and Latinos that live in Iowa City or Des Moines are all terrorists. Huckabee will never be a national leader if he plays to this group and Romney or Palin will be forced to go so far to the right that they make Phyliss Schafley look like Keith Olberman in drag. The Republican party will not be able to regroup for another 25-30 years. It will take that long for Dobson and the others to die out and for someone to finally come forward to say that Reagan was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

6. Thanks
I think the right wing whack jobs may use Iowa as a staging ground for destroying the GOP.

I'll laugh.

10. The GOP Is Self-Destructing
I doubt that Iowa's local party will add or subtract much to that effort.

11. Still,
I've got my tickets and I'm going to watch the destruction until the end. I want my money's worth.

rapture or anything. Though I imagine the tickets will be dear.
