Young People Strike Back at Westboro Baptist
The Right Wing religious whack jobs of Westboro Baptist Church struck again this weekend with a protest in front of the Omaha Central High School. Students had heard about it, though, and were prepared with sounds and shouting and video cameras. They did not stand for Westboro’s hate, and their parents should be proud.

2. Good for them .This should happen every time those sick bastards show up.
I just wish these things would become a little more physical. Those Phelps cowards would run from any physical threat or action.

3. They protested at my church in Orlando this year at Easter...
We were told to avoid engaging them because they generate revenue (so to speak) by suing anyone that tries to fight back. I attend what I consider to be a very progressive United Methodist church and it was really something - the church posted these huge signs with scripture that was basically counter to everything Phelps says. When the Westboro Klan showed up, they left immediately as they would have been protesting right under these signs - not something they would want on the local paper or the news.

The thing that bothered me most - beyond their hate - is the children they have carrying out their dirty work. And then, trying to explain to my kids why we have to park on a different side of the church, etc. to avoid them.

They are scabs, pure and simple. I am proud of the kids in Omaha - that was great!

8. They are in my community all the time
I am 70 miles from Topeka.

What works best is ignoring them. They thrive on attention and yes they will sue you if you come after them.

I can't tell you how gratifying it is to see them in front of a church or event and notice no media filming them and nothing in our local media reporting their protest.

14. Avoid engaging them?
Could you elaborate on this? Suing anyone how? Simply for yelling back at them, or what?

5. After I read the article I realized who these crazed people were - Protest at funerals of soldiers..
"Members of a Kansas church that protests at the funerals of slain service members fled the right-of-way near Omaha Central High School on Friday because police said they could not protect them from hundreds of student counterprotesters."

That goodness someone stood up to these terrible people! Thank you!

9. The logic is this:
Bad things happen, such as our soldiers dying.

God makes all things happen, including bad things.

Our country tolerates homosexuality. (Their assertion, not mine.)

God is making bad things happen, BECAUSE our country tolerates homosexuality.

Note: Their logic is not the same as logic.

7. It's not quite correct to refer to them as "right wing"
since Fred Phelps is a registered Democrat.

I would rather just put them in a class by themselves.

10. Being a registered Democrat does
not disqualify one from being a right wing hate monger.

13. His family claims he is just plain mean
Several of his kids have left the family and they have been interviewed. They all say he is just crazy mean, he beat them as kids and was very emotionally abusive. The question of being a closet gay comes up a lot and the family members all say no.

and they should take him to court. Pity that they don't.
