13. I think he's one of many self-loathing closeted gay men who
deliberately goes into religion or politics to deflect from his own gayness.

There's been no shortage of them in the news over the past year.

People who say that are no better than those who denounce the GLBTQ community.

Looks like he doesn't get out much. I don't know about the closet, but maybe just a small dark room where there is no space for thinking.

22. Your basing this on what exactly?
Sounds like the same rhetoric used by conservatives to bash John Edwards as being gay

5. "...if you voted for a pro-abortion candidate..." Well good, that leaves me off the hook
because I never voted for ANY "pro-abortion" candidate...I don't know of ANY Democrat who is "pro-abortion"...PRO-CHOICE...yes...but "pro-abortion"...doesn't exist...

Nice try asshole...!!!

16. I keep challenging
our rightwing loudmouths to name just one person who is PRO-abortion. When they name someone who is pro-choice, I tell them that choice does not equate to "in favor of." They insist it's the same, so I ask them to point out someone who has ever advocated getting pregnant just to be able to have an abortion - because that's what a PRO-abortion person would do. That's about when they stomp off mumbling.

7. Pastor is like the head priest
of a particular church. Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Deacon. Not sure what a Deacon does, and I'm Catholic.

They have not taken Holy Orders' vows and are usually from the community.

8. Hey Fr. Illo, did voting for Bush/Cheney condemn you as well?
I remember a lot of gospels and readings in which Jesus preached against greed and murder.

I think if the IRS would just remove one of these churches' tax exempt status, regardless of denomination, it would shut these clowns up in a minute. Make no mistake. Even though they preach the virtues of Christianity, they understand the language of money very well.

26. yeah he "looks gay"
just like someone can "look straight". Often it's just a very strong feeling. Every human whether gay or straight or a little of both can pick up sexuality 'vibes' from a person. This guy in particular looks very gay to me. I'm sorry if that offends you (personally I don't see why it should).

18. Fr. Illo should consider his duty to speak accurately, without misrepresenting others:
his pastoral letter (available as pdf at the church website) asserts ".. Obama .. promised .. that the first thing he would do upon taking office is to sign the .. 'Freedom of Choice Act,' which would grant unlimited access to abortion in all 50 states up until the moment of live birth," <emphasis added> but that misrepresents the Act, which actually says:

A BILL To prohibit, consistent with Roe v. Wade, the interference by the government with a woman's right to choose to bear a child or terminate a pregnancy, and for other purposes.

... SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the `Freedom of Choice Act'.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS. Congress finds ...
(4) The Roe v. Wade decision carefully balanced the rights of women to make important reproductive decisions with the state's interest in potential life. Under Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, a woman's right to choose to terminate her pregnancy is absolute only prior to fetal viability, with the state permitted to ban abortion after fetal viability except when necessary to protect the life or health of a woman ...
(6) According to one estimate, prior to 1973, as many as 5,000 women died each year in the United States as a result of having an illegal abortion.
(7) In countries where abortion remains illegal, the risk of complications and maternal mortality is high. According to the World Health Organization, of the approximately 600,000 pregnancy-related deaths .. annually around the world, 80,000 are associated with unsafe abortions ...
(10) 87 percent of the counties in the United States have no abortion provider.
(11) Legal barriers to the full range of reproductive services endanger the health and lives of women ...

SEC. 3. DEFINITIONS. In this Act ...
(3) VIABILITY- The term `viability' means that stage .. when .. there is a reasonable likelihood of the sustained survival of the fetus outside of the woman.

SEC. 4. INTERFERENCE WITH REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROHIBITED.
(a) STATEMENT OF POLICY- ... every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child, to terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or .. after fetal viability when necessary to protect .. life or health ...
(b) PROHIBITION OF INTERFERENCE- A government may not --
(1) deny or interfere with a woman's right to choose--
(A) to bear a child;
(B) to terminate a pregnancy prior to viability; or
(C) .. after viability where termination is necessary to protect .. life or health ...
(c) CIVIL ACTION- An individual .. may obtain .. relief .. in a civil action ...

<emphasis added>
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:S.2020:

Thus Illo's claim of unlimited access to abortion in all 50 states up until the moment of live birth is dishonest, since the bill recognizes explicitly the possibility of post-viability restrictions, except in cases where life or health is at risk

23. Interesting and it may come as a shock to the Father that
Cardinal Francis George of the Arch-Diocese of Chicago voted for P-E Obama as did many of the Priests in the Diocese of Chicago, Joliet, Peoria, Rockford and the Diocese of Gary.

Maybe he should start there and see how far that gets him.

24. Listen Up Group
Am catholic and voted for Obama and I still will continue to receive communion. Not all priests are like this idiot. There are alot of catholics out there that voted for Obama. Not all priests to bad things to children. I live in a rural area and some of the straight minister and their helpers have abused their children also. It isn't just priests. After saying all that I would like to remind the priest to look in his own house before he looks into anyoneelses house.

25. Wilfred Owen Poem
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 09:59 PM by bmichaelh
My response for that would be a poem by the great English poet Wilfred Owen...

At a Calvary Near The Ancre

One ever hangs where shelled roads part.
In this war He too lost a limb,
But His disciples hide apart;
And now the Soldiers bear with Him.

Near Golgotha strolls many a priest,
And in their faces there is pride
That they were flesh-marked by the Beast
By whom the gentle Christ's denied.

The scribes on all the people shove
And bawl allegiance to the state,
But they who love the greater love
Lay down their life; they do not hate.
