Conservative of the Year: Sarah Palin
Human Events, that wingnuttiest of magazines, has named Sarah Palin “Conservative of the Year.” In a year where the Republicans have brought themselves failed candidates and losses in the House and Senate, where they have brought us economic calamity on a global scale, this award seems oddly appropriate.

That is a good name for the boy, but won't make him a proud boy. I think Lugnut is better. Or maybe Ducttape.

4. I agree.
She had the most impact on the news of the year than any other Conservative.

I assume they use the same criteria as "Time" does for Person of the Year, which means that the effect is for good or for ill.

10. That is not their criteria
Read the article. They are naming her because she's the best conservative. Of course, they had Ann Coulter write it up, so it's a bit unhinged.

11. Who was it last year, Larry Craig or Dave Vitter?
I'll bet they hurt poor old Dick Cheney's feelings when they passed him up for his number one wanna-bee.

12. If she is the future of Republicanism and Conservatism...
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 09:10 AM by YOY
Then we have everything or nothing to worry about.

Everything if her behavior and level of incompetence and ignorance is set as a acceptable "norm".

Nothing if she is continually pointed out for being the complete poster child of what went wrong with their party.

14. On the latter you assume sanity
on the parts of Republicans. That may be a bit of a stretch, given this award and all.

16. The only thing we can assume about them is their innate contrarianism.
The logic: If something pisses the left off then it's got to be good for them.

They couldn't be further from the truth. I really hope they can rope their party in from the far right. I wish them all the effort in the world. Frankly because this makes us have to stop catering ad nauseum to the middle and center-right and shafting even the center-left hard.

17. The only thing wrong?
The list of problems with conservatism is longer than the list of Dick Cheney's undisclosed locations.

18. Yes
Conservatives consistently choose people to represent them & forward their cause who are not conservatives. Palin is a theocratic fascist.
