Rush, money & right-wing radio (Ali / Philadelphia Daily News)
By Fatimah Ali
Philadelphia Daily News

... The fact that anyone as mean-spirited as Limbaugh will reportedly earn nearly $400 million over the next eight years as he continues to spread his venom should give every American pause. It says volumes about his employer, Clear Channel, which just months ago signed him to a $38 million-a-year deal, then chose Inauguration Day to fire 1,850 of his colleagues.

It also speaks loudly about the 14 million Americans who reportedly listen to the man who actually said he hopes President Obama will fail ...

The only way that anyone as mean-spirited as Limbaugh is has managed to stay on the air for two decades is that he's making a lot of money for his bosses.

So the way to silence him is to stop listening and boycott his sponsors. If they go, so does he.

1. Is there a list of his sponsors on that link? Otherwise I'm not supporting media that supports rl.
Actually, I just clicked on this thread to Hide it.

But I would love a list of rl sponsors.

:hi:

3. there has been a couple threads on this recently
I don't believe there was a definitive list of sponsors.
One thing you could do (this is painful) is to listen to Rushie and note his local sponsors. Then make sure they know why you ( and hundreds of your progressive friends) no longer frequent their stores. To be honest there may not be many.

2. It won't matter in a few months. Nobody will have the $ to patronize his advertisers
If the dildoheads ever wake up to what he's done to them for the past 20 years, it won't be pretty.

4. They DO wake up on an individual basis
I am a walking example of that. I used to listen to the gasbag when I was 18/19 and then I realized that the fucker never debates anyone and that some of the shit he complains or rants on is truly vitriolic...his early 90s rant against Sir Mixalot for the song "Baby Got Back" was one of them. It was pathetic.

Unfortunately, most of his listeners are so far down the rabbit hole and blame everything and everyone else but Rush for their failure as human beings that an en masse "awakening" would involve several head explosions and suicides.

Seriously, just about every one of his listeners I have met fall into the category: white male, rural or semi-rural, divorced, and bitterly misogynistic/racist in an indirect way. They don't wake up, they just get more bitter.

5. YOY, but you are an anomaly
Most of his listeners are so thoroughly indoctrinated that they will never listen to criticism.

6. But there is a silver lining I guess.
They seldom reproduce and if they do they usually get divorced or let the poor mother raise the kid. I know one guy who would rant about his ex-wife and the alimony payments...it was so obvious that the divorce was all his fault.

Yet our society is quite adept at putting out bitter white males who fall into the same pitfalls many of his listeners do.

Oh yeah, I'm an anomaly. Totally.
