States Rights, 10th Amendment & Secessionist Movement
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 08:31 AM by RJ Connors
Just an FYI

According to Resistnet.com more and more states are finding that their Constitutional Rights are being challenged by the Obama administration and are taking steps to counteract it.

Already, 9 states: Washington, New Hampshire, Arizona, Montana, Michigan,
Missouri, Oklahoma, California, and Georgia have all introduced bills and resolutions declaring sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment. 12 others: Colorado, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Alaska, Kansas, Alabama, Nevada, Maine, and Illinois are considering such measures. Of course, the citizens of each state would have to ratify the bill, just as they would have to vote to join the Union.

Several examples of the reasoning are that Christians might be considered guilty of “hate crimes” when talking about homosexuality, or the Muslim jihadist. For example, Geert Wilders, parliamentarian, is being prosecuted for “hate speech” in the Netherlands for his film “Fitna”, which exposes the Islamic mentality. Others fear that their 2nd Amendment rights will be taken away. Others may object to their tax money being used to fund abortions. Some may be medical personnel who would be forced to perform abortions under the new law, and, who may object to abortions.

In fact, the Founding Fathers included the 9th and 10th amendments to give relief to the people from an excessively over-bearing, or dictatorial government. I believe some some of the States are considering seceding because of the trillion dollar “Generational Theft Act” which is presently being debated in the Senate. As someone calculated, if one were to spend a million dollars a day from the time of Jesus’ Nativity, it would add up to a trillion dollars. So this porky package that includes, doggy playgrounds, a butterfly and turtle park and so much other pork spending is nothing more that #44’s payback to his campaign supporters.

1. It Hasn't Even Been 3 Weeks Yet!
COWARDS!!! We suffered through 8 disastrous years with your anti-Christ of a Bush. If you wanted to go that badly, why didn't you do so before 2000? We would have helped you pack!

2. I know it is just unbelievable
But this kind of secessionist rhetoric is just the kind of fodder to incite Republican radicals, which is to say most all of them, into doing something really stupid. I guess that is all they have left.

3. So how many sponsors do these state bills/resolutions actually have?
It only takes one to introduce something doesn't it and every state has a "pet" wingnut rep (or more). What are the actual odds of it getting more then a few votes vs hysterical laughs?

6. I'm not sure but have been looking at some of these bills in various states
this morning. Most of them seem to be resolutions, which means it's not binding law, and most of them seem to still be in committee of one kind or another. The more I look at them the more it appears like concerted rabble rousing on the part of the Republicans as all of these acts seem to be introduced by Republicans. Most of them have at least 3 or 4 sponsors or the like.

It is just that in these times when we have what are really massive problems to deal with, thanks to George and Co., one thing we don't need is getting the radicals in the GOP all fired up that the revolution is hear or some other such nonsense. These people are just way to easy to manipulate and the people who are manipulating them are playing a dangerous game that we just don't need right now.

But then again, maybe that's the game plan, as President Obama is going after their numero uno ideologue El-RushBo, to maybe incite them and demonstrate how dangerous they are to our country's well being.

At any rate, I found a site that has some pretty good links to the legislatures of these states that are playing around with this.

12. Thank you for the info and link.
Sometimes a good strategy is to let someone ramble on when you know that the more they ramble the more outside the socially accepted norm they are going to appear to others and the further away "average" citizens will push them away.

13. I agree with you on that.
Having grown up in a fundamentalist environment I have know for over 40 years now just how dangerous and opposed to the founding American ideals these people are. But one of the really big problems I have had over the years is that people who have never been really been exposed to fundamentalism just don't get it. At best they think they are just eccentric. Let me assure you they are not. They are dedicated and have been working to take over this country for over 40 years I know of, and the history tells me this has been going on since at least the end of the civil war.

Always bear in mind that when fundamentalist talk about "Reclaiming America for Christ", they aren't necessarily talking about by means of persuasion.

5. The illogic of all this is amazing.
"...relief to the people from an excessively over-bearing, or dictatorial government."

Obama? Hell, I wish he was more dictatorial. We are in real peril from multinational financial barricudas. He needs to use a BIG STICK.

Was there ever a more "excessively over-bearing, or dictatorial government" in the U.S. than that of Bush Jr. and Dick Cheney?

And "the trillion dollar “Generational Theft Act”? Criminy! How about the "trillion dollar WALL STREET Theft Act"--without any debate?!

Not to mention the 10 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT run up by your so-called "CONservatives"--consisting of massive porkbarrel and 'disappeared' billions run through the Pentagon, and unprecedented tax cuts for the rich and the corporate, who don't pay anything close to their fair share of our common costs.

Here's another thread on this crapola:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x422904

I'm all for local control on a lot of things. It's more democratic. But BE CONSISTENT, people--please!

If you're against the JOBS bill, be against the Wall Street grand theft as well.

If you don't like the federal government, condemn "Homeland Security" and the "military-industrial complex"--not just equal rights.

If you're against abortion, oppose capital punishment and war, too. The "right to life." Uh-huh.

9. Info on the Washington State version
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 09:11 AM by TechBear_Seattle
The Washington version is HJM 4009, information here. HJM stands for House Joint Memorial, which means that it is a resolution which would have no force of law. The resolution's seven sponsors are all Republicans and most from rural, very conservative districts. It has been referred to the State Government & Tribal Affairs Committee, where it will no doubt die a quiet death.

10. I'd love to see these states try to be independent countries
Right....

Georgia and it's booming international peanut and peach trade.

Montana will be an international powerhouse in selling big skies.

Idaho will be an economic juggernaut with its potato trade.

Alabama...well, Alabama will just sell stupid to the world. It has that in bushels (I can say this because I am a lifelong Alabamian and have seen it first hand! ;-))

Seriously, I don't know how any state would think that it could survive as an independent nation. There are a few...California, New York, perhaps Florida. But Alabama???? Georgia???

These people are smoking crack.
