Sheriff Joe Arpaio setting up separate Tent City for illegals
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Tuesday he is creating a new Tent City jail for illegal immigrants and would segregate those detainees behind an electrified fence.

Arpaio said his office will put 200 illegal immigrants in chains Wednesday and march them from existing jail facilities into the segregated tent area at the county jail near 35th Avenue and Durango Road.

Arpaio has been aggressive in his enforcement of immigration violations and said the new Tent City would free up space in existing jails and help the county save money on the cost of housing illegals until they are deported or sentenced for other crimes.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio Marches Immigrants Through Public Square

New America Media, Commentary, Douglas Rivlin, Posted: Feb 05, 2009

Editor’s Note: On Wednesday, Maricopa County, Ariz. Sheriff Joe Arpaio marched shackled immigrants through the streets of Phoenix as a show of force and to promote his Fox Reality Channel television program. Meanwhile, former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, the new Secretary of Homeland Security, has called for a review of Homeland Security immigration enforcement measures, including 287g, which allows local police to enforce federal civil immigration law. Maricopa County has entered into a 287g agreement with the federal government that gives Sheriff Arpaio greater latitude to go after immigrants, whether or not they are accused of committing criminal offenses. Douglas Rivlin is communications director of the National Immigration Forum, a non-partisan pro-immigrant advocacy group in Washington, D.C.

1. he'll get his in the long run... we had a sheriff like that
Sheriff Hege, in Davidson County NC.

He got his own tv show too for awhile, he painted the jail cells pepto bismol pink.

From wikipedia article about Hege:

Ostensibly to raise money for charity, Hege created a line of merchandise centered on his public persona. Hege merchandise items included posters, die-cast "spider cars," action figures, coffee mugs and barbecue sauce. All revenue from this merchandise and his TV appearances was donated to charity.

As years passed, charges of nepotism, financial irregularities, and mismanagement began to surface. On September 15th, 2003, Hege was charged with 15 felonies and suspended from office. The charges were five counts of embezzlement by a public officer, five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, two counts of obstruction of justice, one count of endeavoring to intercept oral communication, one count of aiding and abetting to endeavor to intercept oral communication and one count of aiding and abetting to obtain property by false pretenses.

Despite Hege's "No Deals" slogan, he eventually accepted a plea agreement.

Hege remains a very controversial figure since his departure from office. One of Hege's sons (Gerald Hege, Jr.) ran for the office of Sheriff of Davidson County, but was defeated in the May, 2006 Republican primary.

The former sheriff Gerald Hege had 3 years of probation, which ended on May 17, 2007 at 12:00 AM. He is now allowed to leave Davidson County and run for public office.

2. Thank you for the link
I hope you are right and they get to this nut soon. He is not helping the debate on immigration get any more civilized. I'm not sure why would a network as big promote hate. I recall reading an article where he was parading immigrants through the center of town. Ugh.
