Helen finishes Coulter off so we don't have to start
Margaret, I did it. I finished an Ann Coulter book… Now there are six words surely never spoken before. And having finished the book all I can say is, “What the hell was that?”

Is she kidding me? This is what gets her to #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List? What’s #2 - The Rush Limbaugh Diet?
-----
I love you Margaret, but I will never read another Coulter book for you. Need a kidney? I’m your gal. But when it comes to Ann Coulter all I can say is: Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty I’m free at last. I mean it. Really.

10. go to the new york times books list and check for symbols next
to their titles on the list. coulter's books are bought in bulk by wingnuts to push her there. she sells nothing without that. its a sham.

26. sometimes they are just warehoused, some are given to churches to give
away and others are discounted. Conservative book club lists them for a penny. I kid you not.

29. There are literally warehouses of books that they can't move
And after they run our of churches to give them too or RW website giveaways they will shred them rather than return them to the publishers.

The reason they do this is that if a ton of books get returned then the title ends up on the remainder list which is considered the end of the line for authors/titles. You will see these books in bookstores in big bins with signs that say things like 4 for a dollar.

5. I once tried to read a screed from that psychotic
bitch but couldn't make it through the first chapter without becoming so enraged that I needed a double Manhattan. I realized that reading that book would at the very least turn me into a raging alcoholic and at the worst leave me dead of liver failure.

I did return the book to the library unharmed even though I was tempted to leave it out in the elements for the rest of my borrowing period. If having it in the library stops people from buying it I'm all for it. That being said, I don't think anyone actually buys that shit other than "conservative book clubs" who use it as a loss leader to suck yokels and other idiots into signing up and then forgetting how to cancel so they keep paying for the rest of their lives.

30. I know this is subversive but...
... when I notice books like Coultergiests in the library or bookstore I am likely to move them just far enough so that anyone ditto head looking for them can't find them.

Sure it's petty, but on the other hand, it's petty.

18. That is exactly how I felt when I finally finished reading an Ayn Rand farce
called Atlas Shrugged.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people think Ayn Rand was profound. And interestingly, many of the people who think so also consider themselves "good Christians."

23. I know how you felt.
You could almost take "The Fountainhead" seriously because the polemics weren't quite as protracted and the villains managed to be smarmier than the protagonists.

I remember trying to see Dagny Taggart and John Galt with whiny toddlers clinging to their legs and wanting to play horsey while the two protagonists were spouting those endless monologues at each other. I did finish the horrible thing in gales of silly giggles, the whole idea of those characters trying to cope with anything like real life keeping me in a state of hilarity.

I did experience a profound sense of relief when I'd finally disposed of the awful thing and wondered what the hell I'd been missing if she was supposed to be some sort of great social and economic philosopher. The book was poorly written screed interspersed with clumsy porn.

Feh.

37. You didn't miss anything. Only Rand's followers consider her a philosopher or an economist.
Philosophers and economists consider her a bad fiction writer. (Other than Alan Greenspan, who apparently had his brain removed in the 1950s and thinks Rand was right.)

.... he was talking about her possible voter fraud issue and said something like "How can someone live in one state but vote someplace else? Well, wait. I suppose things aren't always what they seem - I mean, her mouth is on her face but she talks out of her ass ... "
