Jindal draws flak from GOP, Dems over speech
Source: MSNBC/AP

NEW YORK - Insane. Childish. Disaster. And those were some of the kinder comments from political pundits about Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and his response to President Barack Obama's speech to Congress on Tuesday night.

Jindal, 37, a Rhodes scholar and son of Indian immigrants, is considered a rising star in Republican ranks and a likely 2012 presidential candidate.

(snip)

His criticism of government spending for emergency economic relief has been widely panned, especially given his state's receipt of billions in federal assistance after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. And Jindal's voice and earnest, awkward delivery have drawn comparisons to Kenneth Parcell, the geeky page on the NBC comedy "30 Rock."

Indeed, a new Facebook group titled "Bobby Jindal is Kenneth the Page" had already attracted more than 1,800 members Wednesday afternoon.

I have a friend who lives in NOLA. He says he cannot even stomach to see Jindal's face on local or national TV.

1. Hey that's not fair!!!
I love Kenneth. He's my favorite character on 30 Rock. He's so innocent and decent. Nothing at all like Jindal.

2. Uh-oh. Big Media is going to have to find a new winger to promote
for 2012. They're just about out of dark-skinned ones. Who will be next?

11. THE PALIN EFFECT act II
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 11:11 AM by mikekohr
A desparate party, out of touch, stridantly dogmatic and idealogical, and increasingly isolated, takes a new face, green, untested, unready and thrusts it before the American People as a new savior, a new celebrity.

Exposed, Jindahl, like Palin, imploded and burst into flames. Just like a vampire exposed to the light of day.

16. Yes, the black community will desert
Obama, you know, because they will be confused, mistaking Jindal as an African American due to his skin tone. :sarcasm:

15. Remember Fred Thompson?
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 02:14 PM by Enthusiast
He was going to be their 'new Reagan'. Many Republicans were placing all their faith in Fred as if he were some sort of party saviour. Their message was bankrupt even then. Now, as you say, they are desperate. I think they were actually considering 'Joe the Plumber' as a future star in the party.

8. This is the round-up from the WaPo's Howie Kurtz.
He's generally not a fave but it's a fairly thorough tour d'horizon. It's pretty nasty and, unsurprisingly, the nastiest comments are from GOP stalwarts.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/blog/2009/02/26/BL2009022600901_pf.html

I find it difficult to believe that someone with a Rhodes scholarship in his background would be a Republican in today's Republican party. He must have checked his brain in before his party registration and forgot to pick it up again. But for whatever it's worth, Jindal cast his lot with them and he'll have to live with the consequences.

14. Jindal is not dumb. Read his wiki. I think he did a lousy job responding

to Obama from the Republicans' standpoint (and therefore I loved it) And he does seem tone deaf. I believe that there are all different kinds of smart and dumb, but Jinal is not intellectually challenged, at least not insofar as book larnin' is concerned.
