For the 911 Committee and Media: COMPLETE 911 timeline
Researcher Paul Thompson has collected every credible detail about 911 beginning in 1979 and going through October 2003. Derek Mitchell of CooperativeResearch.org, has put this massive database into a class presentation that is fully searchable.

www.cooperativeresearch.org/project.jsp?project=911_projectComplete 911 Timeline

Compiled by Paul Thompson

Introduction

This webpage is meant to be a comprehensive resource for anyone attempting to understand 9/11, the anthrax attacks, and the “war on terrorism.” Once you start reading, I think it will become clear that there is much more going on than the “official story” claims. The mainstream media is the one that's failed to “connect the dots.” There are an amazing amount of intriguing news stories that have squeaked into the media but not reached a wide audience, and/or have not been properly followed up or placed into context.

You might call some or all of this “conspiracy theory.” The term “conspiracy theory” is bandied about to discredit ideas that run counter to what is widely believed. But sometimes the official story turns out to be a lie—look at what the Nixon Administration was claiming and the press generally reporting when the Watergate story was in its early stages, for instance. The alternative to conspiracy is “coincidence theory.” At some point, when enough “dots” line up, the thought that everything is just coincidence becomes the wildest theory of all.

I don't know exactly what happened on 9/11. I have my theories and hunches, but it's an extremely complicated plot, and there are a number of plausible explanations for part or all of the story's aspects. Also, I don't want to force my ideas down your throat. I'm using the timeline to draw attention to interesting stories that you may not have read. I have tried to let the stories speak for themselves, and reduce my voice as much as possible. I hope you come to your own conclusions.

This timeline is extremely long. It's chock-full of information and may be difficult to get through. You may want to tackle a bit at a time (and if you're impatient, start from around July 2001 to get to the “good stuff” ). But 9/11 was possibly one of the most pivotal events in world history, and it's impact will be felt on everyone for years to come. You owe it to yourself to go beyond the sound bites and the simplified official story. This is an extremely complicated story with numerous players and motives. Not everything makes sense or fits neatly together. It's a story full of espionage, deceit, and brazen lies. We must not remain ignorant and passive when so much is currently at stake.<snip>

1. Fascinating. Thanks for the post, papau.
I don't know why more groups don't do timelines, flowcharts, and chronologies geared to us amateurs. They're very helpful. A well-done timeline is a work of art as much as a work of history.

2. so many people have spent so many hours
compiling information. I hope we know the full story some day. For 2 1/2 yrs I just assumed whoosh was totally incompetent when he went missing on 911. Things I've been reading lately are leading me to believe he might actually have been scared witless (not a far trip) .. for real. For example > http://www.onlinejournal.com/Special_Reports/Hatfield-R-091901/hatfield-r-091901.html

Do you suppose 'they' were really trying to target whoosh? I keep thinking about those men who showed up at his hotel in Florida too. It's possible Saddam was involved in assassination attempts but not with the other terrorist or acts. So many possibilities. ...

We just need to know. Definitely save your link in my 911 reference. thx!

3. It is a great timeline - and needs to be bookmarked.
Wish I could claim credit for it -

but in any case, Paul Thompson has become one of my heros!

4. thanks
I've been getting a lot of praise at DU lately and it's very gratifying. But even better than praise is help. I could use a lot of help.

1) Some proofreading would be great. The whole thing is riddled with typos.
2) Media outreach. I think the timeline is starting to break through to the mainstream. For instance, Craig Unger in his best selling House of Bush, House of Saud, gives it a very nice plug. So does Eric Alterman in his new book. More journalists need to be aware it exists and hopefully start using it as a resource.
3) I could even use help in summarizing articles into timeline entries.
4) Translations. Especially German. I just found some Russian articles needing translating too.
5) Anyone have a subscription to the Wall Street Journal online? There's a bunch of article there I'm trying to find. Or access to Lexis Nexus you can share?

The timeline is really a collective effort. For instance, probably half the articles in there are from links I've seen on DU. Together we can take it to the next level.

5. Here's a WSJ article I'm looking for
It's only available to subscribers:

Kamikaze Terrorism Wasn't a New Idea
White House Statements Aside, Protective Steps Date Back Through Clinton Administration
SCOT J. PALTROW
Wall Street Journal, April 1, 2004; Page A4
http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB108077920066470982,00.html

Here's some more about it:

Can anyone send me a copy? Has this Paltrow done other good 9/11 stories?

6. Subscription
A quick search indicates Scot Paltrow has written at least one other article on this topic within the last few weeks. An entry at Spymac begins ..
From The Washington Post, March 22, 2004:
In this morning's Wall Street Journal, Scot J. Paltrow writes about how the commission is trying to fill the gaps and inconsistencies in the government account about what actually happened on Sept. 11.

"Among other things, the commission is examining such questions as how long Mr. Bush remained in a Florida classroom just after the World Trade Center strikes, whether there really was a threat to Air Force One that day, how effectively American fighter jets reacted to the attacks, and who activated the national-emergency-response plan." ...
http://www.spymac.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=68855

Barry Ritholtz, "Chief Market Strategist for Maxim Group", reports on the wsj story >>
http://www.nonviolence.org/comment/viewtopic.php?p=16923
and might be willing to help you out. You can contact him from >>
http://bigpicture.typepad.com/about.html

The Left Coaster is keeping an eye on this too >>
http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/001429.html
and points to a column at WP >>
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/politics/administration/whbriefing .. http://tinyurl.com/2ofuy
which mentions SEVERAL mainstream stories under the subtopic 9/11 Commission Watch.

I don't have a wsj sub. But I KNOW if a DUer knew you needed this, they would happily send you a copy. Problem is, this forum is not the most heavily trafficked at DU.

If the Center for Cooperative Research needs subs to wsj and lexus, would a donation drive help? Can peeps donate towards such goal at ? >>
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/donate.jsp

How much is a lexus account? DUers are eager to advance our cause with research and cash. Is this the first time you've asked for assistance here? (just curious)

I will pitch in on the proofreading (will sign up @ site). I recognize this page >>

7. thanks
I saw that other WSJ story by Paltrow and that's what intrigued me - seems that he's two for two, with two good ones.

Thanks for your offer to help with the proofreading! :)

I don't know how much a Lexis Nexus account costs, but it's a lot. Previously I was able to piggyback on someone else's account, and I'd like to do that again, to save money. If there are any willing victims out there. :)

8. WSJ
You can get each WSJ article for $3. Perhaps, if nobody here is a subsriber (and they only get the last 30 days for free), you can post your wishes here, and somebody can buy the article. If you still need the article, I will buy it.

I once looked for Lexis N. I seem to remember that a single day account cost around $70. It is really incredible.

9. Lexis Nexus
I think one gets a trial period of searching the WSJ archives for two weeks free. I would have tried it except I don't have a credit card (weird, hunh?).

As you can see, Lexis Nexus is absurdly expensive. Some college students get it for free though, through their university. I was able to share an account of someone like that, but they graduated recently, so now I'm back at square one.

10. Lexis
You don't have a credit card? I call that suspicous. Do you have something to hide? I thought only terrorists pay in cash...

Last year we had a trial week of Lexis Nexis here at our university, and I really enjoyed it. The university could have got it really cheap, and I wrote an enthusiastic feedback mail to the Bib. team. Unfortunately, they decided against it. They must cut costs...
