'The Wizard of Oz Letter' - who really runs the White House
WEB EXCLUSIVE
By Eleanor Clift
Newsweek
Updated: 1:50 p.m. ET April  02, 2004

April 2 - This was the week the curtain got pulled back on the Bush presidency. In exchange for allowing Condoleezza Rice to testify under oath, President Bush gets to bring along his vice president when he appears  privately before the commission.

A top Republican strategist dubbed the legal document striking the unusual deal “the Wizard of Oz letter” because it strips away the myth that Bush is in charge. Until now, it’s been all speculation about Vice President Cheney’s influence. With the revelation of the tandem testimony, nobody with a straight face can deny Cheney is a co-president or worse, the puppeteer who pulls Bush’s strings.

Aside from being fodder for the late-night comics, the arrangement confirms Bush’s inability to articulate anything without a script--or a tutor by his side. There’s a reason  lawyers don’t take testimony in groups. The whole idea is to get individual recollections and then compare stories to uncover contradictions.  Try thinking about it this way: can anyone imagine Bush’s father in a similar situation bringing his vice president? (For those who need a refresher course, the elder Bush was a rocket scientist compared to his son, and the vice president was Dan Quayle.)

3. Is this a classic example of someone's face freezing in a nasty
expression the way our parents always warned us about?

7. Talk about evil in a face, where is your comment on Hastert?
I've never seen such an evil face as Hastert's. The Son of Satan!

5. I think Rove is pretty much in charge. Cheney is the executive who
makes it happen. This is not to say Rove is a "genius", actually he is screwing up a lot with his decisions. This Edgar Bergen- Charlie McCarthy thing is just another. Watch them reverse this somehow.

2. It's part of their diabolical plot!
Here I was, all set to vote against Bush, ABB, ANYone but Bush.

And now I find out it's Cheney I should be voting against? Is there even going to be an ABC selection on my ballot?

:)

4. Is not nice to see someone in the media saying what needs to be said
for a change. Usually what you get from the TV programs is reporters trying to make excuses for Bush an just repeating the White House drivel.

8. Not claiming I'm a 'rocket scientist' or having a direct line to God,
you can see in my DU posts that I've been encouraging Democratic strategy to isolate Bush one on one. (For about 1 year now.) I said that ALL Dem. Candidates should announce that they will NOT read prepared speeches or use teleprompters or electronic devices in ears... For me, this is the only way to make the Media Whores report on this which would call national attention to who/what is actually manipulating Junior. If Bush didn't follow suit as the Dems. he'd look like a fool. If he tried to use is own brain to respond to world events, questions... he'd look like more of a fool.

Therefore as 1 year went by and only Kerry is left, why doesn't he take this position? It's obvious to me and finally some mainstream source are reporting the truth. Why not finish the job on Junior? Mom always said, 'Never do a job half ass.'
