U.S. prepares for forceful return to Fallujah
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001894733_iraq03.html

FALLUJAH, Iraq — The charred bodies have been cut down from a bridge over the Euphrates River, but the shadows of the four American security contractors who were killed here continue to fall over this restive Iraqi town.

As leaders in the United States and Iraq huddle to map their next moves in Fallujah, the key actors on the ground are showing no signs of being able to prevent a fierce clash.

A day earlier, a senior U.S. military official said the American forces would not embark on "a pell-mell rush" into Fallujah, and that any military strike "will be precise" and "overwhelming."

Just like the Israelis rampaging through Jenin... More civilians will
be killed and more hatred sown. This is NOT good. :eyes:

1. just what they want
this was very clever of them.

They knew that by doing this they'd provoke a cowboy mentality response from the Bush regime, which is of course exactly playing into their hands.

Unfortunately I think the Bush people are just too clueless to figure out any way to get out of this whole situation in any way but to provoke more disasters.

Why do people think he's making us safer???? :wtf:

2. This mistake we are about to make may open the gates of hell
Until now, the Iraqi people have been amazingly
complacent.

4. Typical US military mindset - fighting the last war...or battle.
Our military is great from 30,000 feet, but they're going to be out-thought and out-maneuvered on the ground when they're fighting civilians. The Iraq homeland defenders are already off to the next front, and our military hasn't a clue as to where it will be or when it will happen.

So, they'll go into Fallujah, round up a couple of dozen "insurgents," and send out the PR that the town "has been contained...order has been restored." That will last until the next attack. We're fighting an inner tube here - push at the center and the thing just bulges out elsewhere.

We're not writing the playbook here. Hell, we're playing polo while the Iraqis aren't playing at all.

Look up "quagmire" in Webster's and you'll read a description of this situation.
