BROWNSVILLE -- Former President Carter on Thursday called the Bush administration's decision to wage war against Iraq "ill-advised and unnecessary," adding the resulting campaign "has turned out to be a tragedy."

is a doofus! Pahlease! He is an embarrassment!
He is a great citizen but do not hold him in high regard as a President! When he speaks, most do not listen!

Carter has no history of bringing peace to anywhere.

5. Buh-bye, Freeper.
And to console you for your banishment to Outer Political Darkness, here's some clues:

September 1978

Camp David Accords

Muhammed Anwar Al-Sadat, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Menachem Begin, Prime Minister of Israel

Have fun.

6. Sorry, but...
It was a start, but it was not successful. (In the whole scheme of things.) I am just trying to say that I do not consider Carter as the almighty of the Democratic party as the opening post stated.

8. That still does not explain why you call him an embarrassment.
Demi-God? Embarrassment? Certainly not. The man is a credit to humanity.

9. Okay, sorry if I misread your intent--IF I misread your intent.
However, you must admit that to state Carter "never brought peace anywhere"--or whatever you claimed--is a bit of a stretch.

IIRC, Carter did as much as anyone except perhaps Bill Clinton to bring peace to the Middle East.

I mean--he didn't assassinate Sadat in 1981, now did he?

10. Wow!
Perhaps the wrong place or time for a true 'Jimmy Carter' dialog.
I have been around for a long time. I consider myself an original progressive. Being called a freeper, without going into discussion, shows you are still children.
Be well, folks!

11. No, but definitely the wrong approach.
And if you're an "original progressive" I'm the Easter Bunny.

Although on second thought, and given the level of political tone-deafness displayed by so many of the "progressives" on this board, perhaps it's true that you are what you claim.

Perhaps we can discuss Jimmy Carter and his contributions to this country and to the world at another time.

For now, Happy Easter/Passover or whatever. :toast:

12. Okay, fair enough...
I prefer Liberal, but was trying to fit in.
Jimmy Carter is a great humanitarian and did take care of the Egypt/Israel conflict. Our Govt. is pumping so much money into Egypt (and Israel.) That they do not bother with each other! The Peace Accords settled that, but nothing else. The whole situation is still a mess. My point was that Jimmy Carter was not the almighty! Perhaps I am not able to explain what I mean?

13. Perhaps. It's just that the tone of your original post was
pretty harsh, all in all.

In any case, and as I said before,

Happy Easter/Passover/insert in your favored Spring Solstice celebration here. :hi:

7. You need to read more history.
Perhaps the Camp David peace accords would supplant that vacuous notion that Carter, a Nobel peace laureate, has nothing to show for his efforts.

14. Jimmy Carter was too honest
for the washington sharks and was therefore rendered ineffective in what he tried to accomplish as president. What he has done since leaving office speaks volumes as to his character and leaves Nixon, Reagan and Bush1 floundering at the start line.

15. Watched President Carter's
handling of the Three-Mile-Island event on the History Channel
the other day. Can you imagine how the current office holder
would react to such an occurence today? How could one analyze
and react to same when they cannot even pronounce "nuclear"?
Still believe that Carter was the victim of a conspiracy
produced by "Rayguns" operative Casey and GHW Bush in the
handling of the hostages by Iranian captors. I'll take
Jimmy Carter any day to the likes of his immediate successors
and the occupant of that office today.

17. Carter victim of Reagan's Operatives?
Let me tell you how important the hostage situation and the
subsequent rescue mission was to Carter. I was in USMC then.
Part of the Delta Force folks came from MCAS New River, Camp
Lejuene North Carolina. On the day of the funeral of one of
the rescuers that were killed we were told the President would
be there. We waited, and waited, and waited, might I add
along with the young Marines family. Well, after several hours
we were told the President couldn't make it.Then we were told
he would be there in 30 minutes. To make a long story short,
the family, the casket, and we Marines waited all morning and
part of the afternoon. No kind, caring, gentle, loving
President Carter. We went on without him. He never even sent
condolences. Yea he was a victim of his on incompetence. On
the other hand, the Reagan's were at every memorial service
for any and all of our fallen heroes. There were no major
threats to any Americans during Reagan's term, and I really
hate to say all this. But it is true. Reagan was a great
President. Ended the cold war. Come on, don't wear blinders,
at least give credit where credit is due. Don't live in total
denial.

16. Jimmy Carter
People are making a martyr out of this guy. He is a nice man,
but as far as a President he was a buffoon. Does anyone
remember 20% plus interest rates for homes? How about the gas
crisis and long lines? I was in the military during his
tenure. We went from having the best equipment to being a rag
tag army. We were paid a penance to begin with. He stopped
our paltry little raises once year. He brokered the Camp David
deal. Big deal. Every President has tried to broker, has
brokered some sort of peace accord for that wild and crazy
middle east. Guess what? They are still fighting.
