"The Wall" by Mike Malloy 4/13/04!!
Well, maybe Mike isn't on the radio, but he's doing some fine writing!

13 April 2004

The Wall

Today's (Tuesday) session of the 9/11 Commission hearings has just ended and I find myself, once again - as a result of another particular action or attitude or presentation by a member of the Bush regime - very angry and stunningly amazed. Angry because the expected hard questioning of the religiously insane John Ashcroft never materialized. Amazed because more associates and appointees of this corrupt administration were able today to bullshit their way through sworn testimony, almost daring the commission members to challenge what was being said under oath. And after the cartoon, newsreel and coming attractions were finally complete, the main feature, John Ashcroft walked boldly onto the screen. His now famous arrogance and disrespect for anyone who questions his actions or decisions was on full display, as fully as when he obliquely warned members of Congress and the media after 9/11 that any challenge to his decisions, any questions of substance regarding the trickery of any member of the Bush Administration would be considered a reasonable facsimile of treason.

Why does this keep happening? How do these Bush miscreants continue to abuse the power to which they are not entitled and still not be held accountable? When will one or more of them say or do something so outrageous, so vile, that our tired and disconnected population will finally rise up in righteous anger against this administration? An illegal war with thousands dead, including hundreds of American soldiers, hasn't done it. The destruction of 35 years of environmental laws hasn't done it. The corruption of our political system hasn't done it. The butchering of our economy hasn't done it. A slavish tax giveaway to the rich hasn't done it. The loss of millions of jobs hasn't done it. The corruption of the US Constitution and the imposition of draconian restrictions on civil rights and freedoms haven't done it.What, dear god, will it take? The atrocities they have committed - and continue to commit - against our form of self-government, our people, and our culture continue unabated regardless of the protests that, themselves, seem to be getting fainter and fainter.

Watching on C-Span, as today's mini-parade of Bush thugs testified, it almost was possible to detect the pungent, sweaty odor that rises from someone who is lying and who knows he is lying and who doesn't give a goddam if anyone else knows he is lying. In addition to the lies - perjury, actually, since these creepy bastards were under oath - there came the horrible realization that this country's security is and has been in the hands of brain-dead bureaucrats who are incompetent, stupid and politicized to a degree that has rendered all of them unable to think, assess a situation or make an informed decision - even when the security and the lives of Americans are in the balance.

But, the most remarkably and astonishingly ignorant person to testify today had to be Thomas Pickard, the acting Director of the FBI for three months in 2001 following the resignation of Louis Freeh and prior to the appointment of Robert Mueller. He had about him the attitude and look of the March Hare, the Mad Hatter. Repeatedly, Pickard revealed that not only did he know nothing of the terrorist intrigues swirling around him in early 2001, and the death and destruction that was about to be unleashed - both in the US and abroad - but also, he had no clue as to the inner workings of the agency of which he was the temporary director.

1. I miss this man
Here's someone that we need so badly.
I can't for the life of me see why AA has
not given him a slot.
I predict if AA does well, another major market
station will hire Mike to compete with them....

3. actually ...
I was reading in this week's issue of Time Magazine that this is a new and upcoming industry that you can now buy stock in thanks to the likes of Air America! :D

I've been thinking greatly about the prospects of such an investment. I rather like the idea!

I hope someone snaps up Mike Malloy fast. Otherwise, I have a feeling he just might be writing the next book, "HOW I HATE THESE PEOPLE!" :D

2. To paraphrase "Animal House"
Incompetent, stupid, and politicized is no way to go through life. Unless you get appointed to a great job in Washington. (Actually, Senator Blutarski probably would be regarded as something of a statesman in the current regime.)
