Holy War? Is That What Bush is About?
Bush, by embracing Sharon's own unilateralism, was in effect throwing sand in Muslim faces worldwide. Other than the invasion of Iraq, there's hardly anything Bush could have done to muster even greater support for the worldwide jihad.

What is Bush thinking? There are clues in statements from his press conference. "Now is the time, and Iraq is the place, in which the enemies of the civilized world are testing the will of the civilized world. We must not waver," the president said. Later, he added, "I also have this belief, strong belief, that freedom is not this country's gift to the world. Freedom is the Almighty's gift to every man and woman in this world. And as the greatest power on the face of the earth, we have an obligation to help the spread of freedom."

Bush came pretty close to proclaiming the fight against radical Islam the divine mission of the United States. He may not have meant that, but you can rest assured that is just how much of the Islamic world will view his comments, especially in light of his actions the next day on behalf of Israel. You can also bet it will be read that way by the American religious right, which sees in defending Israel a way to bring about Armageddon and the second coming of Christ.

1. Do ya think
he's a believer in the "bible code"? Wouldn't surprise me one bit. And yes - it's all about religion.

3. I haven't heard any public comments from Billy Graham lately
Edited on Sat Apr-17-04 12:10 AM by Rebel_with_a_cause
Last I saw of him and his preacher son was at the National Cathedral during the ceremony for 9-11 victims, when Bush had that scary "one too many Chivas Regals" gaze.

That was the day Graham and son were ready to drop nukes on "the enemy," whoever they were.

4. I don't see us civilians going the full round w/this administration
...Nov is just too far off.

Should there be another attack in the U.S. before then, as per the attack in Spain, what options will we have? Storm the WH ramparts and sweep up the litter before it's too late?

5. It may come to that
I really hope it doesn't. I distrust the motives of the assholes in power and they may well cross the line I myself have drawn in the sand. If they cross that line, I think most Americans will want to oppose them but will be afraid. But ... I am 48. I have had a great life. I have a lot of regrets, but I can't deny I learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it. I have kids. I want them to grow up in a free country like I did, so they can make their own mistakes and have their own adventures and their own life. Not too much to ask, eh? If my taking a bullet wins that for them, it is a fair deal.

Further, once I took an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I see nothing that has relieved me of that obligation.

So it sucks if it comes to that, but if it comes to that, I say ... party on. Let's get it on.

Just 'cause they hit us doesn't mean we have to feed the Constitution and the Federalist Papers and all that to the shredder. Any party that chooses that path needs to be opposed amd defeated.

6. tragic times we live in, thanks to these "Friday the Thirteenth" fools
My gut feeling since Bush cut his deal w/Sharon--I don't see a happy ending.

Eventually, Americans' instinct for human survival will kick in, over-riding even concerns for the sanctity of the Constitutional. Though, if the human species has truly evolved, it will first send in the "white coats" to remove the witless white men from our White House.

7. This is the fire
We will either be transformed by it or turned to steel.

In the end, we have few choices about how we die. We have many choices about how we live. Do we live for freedom? Are you willing to bleed so another's child may grow free?

If enough people answer "yes" to that our culure will survive. And that is what is important, since in the final analysis we are all dead men walking. By definition.

8. Why it's not impossible to "divine" Bush's motives
"We can't know Bush's motives, but it's not difficult to read the effects...."

God, money, power, oil -- what's the difference?

Any or all of the various and confusing motives of Bush as God's earthly designee, the Bush Administration proper, and the pilot fish neo-cons are serving the purposes of one or another corporate power sector (with Judeo-Christian religions being just another corporate power sector).

I think it makes more sense if one changes "civilized world" to "corporatized world" and interprets "freedom" as the freedom to consume and be consumed.

9. Democracy is a good thing.
I sure wish we had a Democracy in Amerika.

" Freedom is the Almighty's gift."

I have read the bible. Nowhere is god a freedom loving entity. I only have read that this being is a monarch and that human beings are his servants. Jesus was a diferent story. He seemed to be a Socialist and not a dictator type of a Socialist either.
