Correction (Washington Post)
Washington Post

Sunday, July 19, 2009
The caption to a photograph on the July 18 Free for All page said that President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy were getting in place to be photographed, with a woman to the left. It should have made clear that, according to videotapes of the event, Mr. Obama was not looking at the woman, as a letter writer said that it appeared.

5. One day?
The paper is only published daily - this photo was published on Saturday, corrected Sunday.

What do you think they might have done differently?

7. No -
they should have done exactly what they did - own up to an insulting and egregious error.

This "stay silent and let it blow over" bullshit is for weenies, cowards, and liars. Taking responsibility for an error is what grownups do.

You seem to think the tactics of the Bush II administration should still be in place.

Major wrong......................................

10. The correction won't be believed, or cared about. Remember that a picture is worth...

11. That's not the point -
it's about making the correction.

People who didn't believe it when it first appeared - here at DU about a week ago - don't need it, and maybe the people who believed it will shut the hell up about it.

It won't change anyone's mind, of course, but that doesn't mean that the Post should not have done the correct thing........................

4. This was bogus from the start -
I got into a tussle with an Obama-hating DUer who was ADAMANT that the photograph was on the level, that Obama and Sarkozy were a couple of hounds.

The concept of "depth of field" never penetrated the DUer's thick mind.

This kind of bullshit just makes me glad I canceled my almost-thirty-year-old subscription to the Washington Post when they started ballyhooing Fuckface's invasion of Iraq.

I don't miss it at all.................................................

6. I've seen video and photos from several different angles...and from them I could go either way
But from the front, the girl looks much younger and I doubt would get the leers being shown.

8. Nah, O was cleared. The step was high, he was checking that and he lady behind him.
Sarkozy on the other hand was definitely looking at the girl.

9. The interpretation occurred due to Sarkozy's reaction to Obama's glance.

12. Huh...But Sarkozy didn't react to Obama's glance.
Considering Obama kept looking at the floor as he does a slight turn to help the woman behind him. You see Sarkozy still lean back while Obama is clearly speaking to the Black lady on his arm that he helped down the stairs.
