The Basic Flaw in Neoconservatism
http://www.antiwar.com/reese/?articleid=2379

...snip

if neoconservatives came from an American tradition rather than a Trotskyite tradition, they would understand that America itself is not a democracy. Benjamin Franklin emerged from the Constitutional Convention and a lady asked him, "Well, Mr. Franklin, what kind of government have you given us?" He did not say democracy. He replied, "Madam, we have given you a republic – if you can keep it."

...snip...

Ours is best summed up in the Declaration of Independence. All men are given unalienable rights by God. The sole purpose of government is to protect those rights. When a government instead abuses those rights, then the people have the right and the duty to overthrow it and create a new government.

Some Americans today are so stupid and/or ignorant of their country's history that if you asked them if people have the right to overthrow a government, they would reply in the negative. I had a professor who asked that question, and in a class of more than 30 students, only four of us said "Yes."

Its not that Americans are "stupide"...well, some are...its the
fact that they have been CONDITIONED to think this way.

1. Here's another good one by same author, Neocons: Learning Disabled
Thanks for posting "The basic flaw." Here are a few damning lines about neocons from this one:

http://www.antiwar.com/reese/?articleid=2285

"An ideologue shares a lot of traits with the insane. His ideology provides him with all the answers to all the questions. When reality throws up facts that don't jibe with the ideology, he ignores reality and sticks with his ideology.

"That's the basic problem with the Bush administration. Its members have all the answers, and reality be damned. No matter what happens on the ground in Iraq, they proceed with their belief that a people who have never known democracy nevertheless hunger for it and love us for giving them the chance to experience it. If the atrocity in Fallujah is an example of Iraqi love, it's pretty darn tough love.

"Ideologues are dangerous, whether their ideology is the neoconservative variety, Zionism, communism or Islamic extremism. Their minds all work the same way: We know the answers; don't try to confuse us with facts. I am deeply grieved about every young American who is killed or maimed in Iraq. Their sacrifice is for a lunatic idea and nothing else."

(Furthermore, I THINK KERRY IS UP AGAINST NOT ONE, BUT TWO IDEALOGUES WHOSE "REASONING" BORDERS ON INSANITY. YES, I MEAN NADER TOO! Just hink about how it applies to him too:)

"An ideologue shares a lot of traits with the insane. His ideology provides him with all the answers to all the questions. When reality throws up facts that don't jibe with the ideology, he ignores reality and sticks with his ideology...Their sacrifice is for a lunatic idea and nothing else.""

AS WE WATCH THE UNTHINKABLE, WE LIVING IN INSANE TIMES, AREN'T WE?
