Flag-Draped Coffins Should Be in Full Sight - letter in LA Times
http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/opinion/la-le-iraq24apr24,1,6905722.story

April 24, 2004

(snip)

My dear son returned home in a flag-draped coffin nine months ago, and his return was shrouded in secrecy. The Army would not give us information on when he would arrive at Dover. We were also told we could not be at the Burbank airport when he arrived.

The Pentagon says the secrecy is to protect the privacy of the families. Nonsense. Please continue to lift the veil of secrecy that surrounds the return home of our dead loved ones.

3. Oh. My. God.
As bad as I thought hiding the returning coffins from the public was, this is just plain infuriating. I had no idea even the families were not allowed to witness the return. This is freakin' ridiculous.

And that asswipe piece of toilet scum has the gall to say the ban onphotographs is out of respect for the families. Geezus!

Okay...pardon my language. But this really pisses me off. I think I should go outside and stare at the flowers for awhile.
