PERSPECTIVES ON CUBAN ATTITUDES TOWARD DEMOCRATS


In his April 24 letter, Remember the GOP, José A. Rodríguez listed the Democratic presidents whose decisions he decries and urges Cubans not to criticize President Bush. Has Rodríguez forgotten who was president when Fidel Castro took over Cuba? Or that all the Republican presidents have done nothing about Cuba's plight?

Miami

Ever since the Bay of Pigs, Cuban exiles have voted Republican. Every four years, Republican candidates come to Little Havana, perhaps visit a nursing home, go to Versailles and drink Cuban coffee, say ``¡Viva Cuba Libre!'' get some campaign contributions and go home.

Have they done anything about Cuba? Forty-five years later, Castro is still in power, and we get herded like sheep to the polls to vote Republican because it is our patriotic duty.

God did give us a brain. How about using it to vote for the best candidate who will help this country flourish? How about thinking of the economy, healthcare, education and the environment here before we vote?
