Sexually deviant photos of U.S. Embassy Guards in Afghanistan cause outrage

Gawker.com received disturbing photographs of 'security guards' who were hired under contract to protect the U.S. Embassy and its workers in Kabul, Afghanistan from the Project on Government Oversight or POGO.

POGO sent a letter to Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton on September 1, 2009 detailing evidence that some of the security guards hired to work at the embassy had contacted them about a "breakdown in the chain of command." The letter outlines a pattern of problems beginning as early as 2007.

The POGO photographs can be viewed at Gawker but be warned, they're graphic and disturbing. They show security guards along with their supervisors, participating in deviant sexual behavior like urinating on one another, eating food out of other mens' butt cheeks and more. Their sexual proclivities weren't reserved for themselves, however. Apparently one of their supervisors grabbed an Afghan national food worker by grabbing him and telling him, "You are very good for fXXXing."

Other guards at the Embassy who didn't want to participate in the 'festivities' were intimidated through humiliation, demotion and some were even fired. The guards provided to protect the U.S. Embassy are employees of a unit called ArmorGroup North America, owned by Wackenhut.

In 2008, the Department of State notified ArmorGroup North America or AGNA that there were "serious problems with its performance, including a lack of English proficiency in a large portion of the guard force. In September, 2008, the Department of State advised AGNA that it was considering terminating the contract. But they haven't.

This was a division of the Wackenhut Co. That was the same company that provided the guards for the Holocaust Museum in DC. and refused requests from those employees to provide kevlar vests before one was killed. Privatization has its limits.
