Excerpt:After the first speech that President Obama made to the joint session of Congress, Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal was chosen to rebut the President's speech. Jindal's speech was a disaster for his career and for the Republican party.
This time the GOP chose another Louisiana Republican to rebut the President's speech. Representative Charles Boustany is a former heart surgeon who has been sued for malpractice three times and was a birther at one time. Boustany tried to buy a British 'lordship' from scammers. Boustany has taken $1.25 million from the health insurance industry as a politician.
Bobby Jindal's speech after Obama's was bad. Who can watch Kenneth the page on NBC's 30 Rock without thinking of Jindal? But Boustany's rebuttal speech was worse. It seemed clear he hadn't read the President's speech before writing his rebuttal.
Perhaps worst of all, at the end of his speech he appeared to criticize his own patients for not taking better care of themselves when they were younger. Boustany is big on tort reform which is no surprise for someone who has been the target of a malpractice suit or two or three. Most would agree that frivolous lawsuits should be discouraged but there are times when patients have every right to sue a doctor who botches a job. There is a fine line between the two and whoever finally decides what tort reform includes, the whoever should not be a doctor who has been sued for malpractice.
Here's the speech by Boustany. I strongly recommend that you watch President Obama's speech first which you can view here.
