Boycott South Carolina
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 08:25 AM by parasearchers
I happen to be a filmmaker, and the oppportunity has come up to shoot one of our paranormal investigations in SC.

However I thought to myself, why the hell are we supporting a backwoods state like that?

So I sent them this:

I used to come out to SC. However it is obvious that the generations of inbreeding now apparent in your various politicians and high profile people that represent your state are spilling over to affect the rest of the country. I will not be returning. Along with that fact, I am not bringing my company down there to shoot a film. There are lots of other states that have a more progressive and welcoming political atmosphere. I am also recomending the same thing to other associates in my profession. By all means, please keep your politicians who advocate 11th century policies and hate-mongering. I am sure the state can get along without revenues we generate.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
However everyone please send them an email. Stating SC is no longer an option for your tourist plans and why. Hit them where it hurts, the wallet.

Here is their link:

OH PLEASE REC, THIS IS STRIKING A NERVE, WE ARE GETTING UNRECS, (WE REALLY NEED NON-ANONOMOUS UNRECS)

1. My DH, daughter and I were just discussing this last night.
We have always wanted to visit Charleston, SC, but after what Wilson did, even our daughter doesn't want to go there now. I think writing the tourism board of a particular city in SC would help them to know what affect their politics is playing on their loss of tourism. Great post! K&R

When I was stationed in Norfolk. I was told the last place you wanted to be was in Charleston. Now yet another reason never to shoot there. :)

go ride my horse before breakfast. Neat thing, NM never really left the Old West" just upgraded it's technology. You still go out armed(if your smart) once you leave the really leave cities. Never know if you might run into bandits or drugrunners or more likely irritated wildlife (bears, Cougars, Lions, pissed off rattlesnakes) luckily I have never had any encounters with wildlife, I would feel bad about shooting anything, except rattlesnakes. Last week a black bear cub rolled accidently onto the highway and brought traffic to a standtill while everyone waited for it to get it's bearings, and climb back up the hill to rejoin its mother and sibling. Was great to watch.

Plus with the problems in Mexico spilling across the border, its just wise to take precautions. However besides that NM is still really wild, you have to be careful, heck over at white sands, which from where I am is a perpetual white gleam on the horizon. Several people have gotten lost and died out there. Couple miles from here we have had Mt Lion attacks. Sorry if i misunderstood you :)

When we have traveled we made sure to eat and get gas before and after that state. To think that Ga is saner than another state boggles what is left of my mind.

We live in North Central NC now and my mom has moved to Down East NC, I have no need or want to go to SC. As someone else wanted to see Charleston..I did too, but not at risk of safety or sanity.

19. No Hilton Head fot us this year
We go every February - my husband golfs and I sun and shop. We will go elsewhere this year and I have already written to the tourist commission and told them why.

I won't ever go there again. Maybe my few tourist dollars won't make much of a difference but if we all boycott South Carolina, it will definitely hurt them.

30. Wow
this is really childish. While a funny idea, this is really bad. To remind you, the 2008 election in SC tallied up 1.3 million for McCain and 862k for Obama. Thats a pretty decent election. So the 862k Democrats that are trying to make things better, and forwarding our party in SC will be pleased to know that you have chosen to send such a totally ridiculous letter to their Parks & Tourism Dept. You call all people in SC "backwoods," "in-breeders," and use the one bad apple spoils the bunch logic to criticize SC as a whole because of the actions of 1 person. tisk-tisk. I wonder how you would feel if everyone negated everything you personally supported and believed in and just lumped you in with the rest of the "UFO-paranormal-i've been abducted & probed-i dress up in silly costumes-crazies" (I don't believe that, it's just an example). It would definitely suck for you I'm sure, and it would be totally stupid as well.

I personally know people that are very huge democratic supporters from the Charleston area. These are the people you will be hurting with this boycott. Look at the tourism areas of SC and look how they vote. I'm pretty sure all of the so called "tourist" counties voted around 54% for Obama. The people that live in these areas are the people that you will be hurting with this. No one visits the republican north-western SC or Columbia, everyone goes to the beaches, everyone especially goes to Charleston. These are strong democratic places. This idea basically hurts those who totally agree with you, while it does nothing to those whom you are targeting. If you want to do something about this, then just amend your letter to boycott only SC's 2nd district which is anchored by the heavily republican controlled city of Columbia, the state capital, b.t.w. That's who voted for Wilson. But, you see, no one ever visits Columbia, it's not a tourist town. No offense Columbia, it's a nice city, but just not a tourist town.

On a 2nd note, if we've come to the place where we have started choosing our vacation destinations based solely on the political affiliations of the area..... isn't that a little childish as well. While some republicans are capable of saying some crazy things, I would think it funny if one said, "We can't take the kids to the Grand Canyon this summer because the Coconino County carried Obama in the 2008 election with 58%." It would be pretty hilarious wouldn't it?

I think your hate is misguided. Direct your anger where it's useful.

Frankly with the continued, bolluxing SC manages to export it more like just brought them over the line, much different from your downplaying the recent actions of the SC political leadership. Joe Wilson represents SC, his outburst on a federal stage reflects SC. If he had done this in his home state who cares. However he did it at the Presidents speech. Let SC deal with the fallout now.

33. LOL
i didn't downplay anything, i didn't state my opinion about it. Wilson represents 1 district of SC, I think you are confusing the representation of the senator with the governor. If the Gov did it, then it would be slightly more permissible to do something like that, but 1 senator, from 1 district makes an ass of himself is not grounds to blame the whole state, esp when your calling for a boycott for the discticts that didn't even vote for him, that vote for Obama and other democrats all the time.

I would take it that you weren't abroad anytime during Bush's 8 years? You never had to deal with droves of Europeans after hearing that you were American tell you how stupid you were because of the actions of 1 person. Even though you would say, I didn't vote for him, I don't like him, to them, bush was your leader and thus you were the same. Fair? not really. Also, I don't understand the part of how SC is "export(ing) it more like just brought them over the line" Can you clarify?

Americans were spat on during that time, became easier to say you were Canadian. I also remember being called traitor and worse by Repukes who were screaming to ship liberals to concentration camps. When I was opposed to the war and predicted it would damage if not destroy our economy and would do nothing to help us. I had based that off of my time on Admiral's Staff 2nd fleet. Unfortunately Neo-cons are unencumbered by such things as facts.

38. Go right ahead!!
Please do! I am not kidding!

As one of the few lib'rulls who live here in The Palmetto State, nothing would tickle me sillier than a full-out boycott of our third-world state.

PLEASE. Do NOT come to Myrtle Beach, or any of our state's attractions.

Sidebar: The oafish morans of Myrtle ran the bikers off, the bikers now go to NC. Please! Let's make it worse!

I am totally serious. A lovely idea, yes, as this state's biggest industry is tourism. No tourists, no industry! Thank you!

But, too, please, also re-route your travel plans, avoid 95, 26, 77, 85. Why? No need to stop for gas, either, see?

I'm 100 percent to it. That would shake Mark Sanford and his confederate buddies up, might even jazz Joe Wilson a shade, eh?

I'm in. Do it!

I assumed they were following the Ancient Ruling Egyptians in their living arrangements( that time honored tradition of marrying ones sister), it would be the only pausible explanation, perhaps besides maybe the entire SC admin is maybe aliens....
