Intellectual conservatism, RIP
..."But the early neoconservatives were right to defend mainstream liberalism against countercultural radicalism. Like today's right, the '60s and '70s left was emotional, expressivist and anti-intellectual. (One of its bibles was Abbie Hoffman's "Steal This Book!") Like today's right, the '70s left favored theatrical protest over discussion and debate. The prophets of the Age of Aquarius and the "population explosion" were every bit as apocalyptic as Glenn Beck. And just as today's right-wing radicals play at Boston Tea Parties, so Abbie Hoffman dressed up as Uncle Sam. The teabaggers are the Yippies of the right. "

1. In my younger leftist high school underground newspaper days
contemporary with Abbie Hoffman "Steal this book", I remember that many from our side carried signs that were mispelled too. Amerika with a "k". But that was ON PURPOSE.

3. alms for the poor?
Neoconservatism looking for a new home already as they are now out of power. If neoconservatives could only make the case that both the Vietnam War and the Iraq War were justified and sound policy decisions, then maybe their hero Lieberman would have won in 2004 or could win an election in the future.

4. Spin, Spin, Spin
Trying to steal the 60's thunder. Pitiful, isn't it? the neoconservatives never got over the 60's, and never will, because they've seen the righteous rage that lurks under the surface, and they know they've earned it.

5. It occurs to me that yesterdays yippies might just be todays teabaggers
Or at least born at around the same time.

Maybe the teabaggers were the ones who never got laid/dated during the 60/70's and never got over that and have been stewing in the bitter ever since.
