The Republicans' Deaf Ear Is a Preexisting Condition (Republican Senator from Ky. falls asleep)
Source: Washington Post

The Senate Finance Committee was barely an hour into its consideration of health-care reform on Tuesday morning, but Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) already knew where he stood.

"I do not support a government takeover of the health-care system," he railed. The proposal "confiscates more money from the taxpayers," he went on. "It tramples on American freedom and liberties."

After this vigorous display of open-mindedness, Bunning was spent. About an hour later, spectators noticed that the senator, who had been resting his chin in his hand, had fallen fast asleep. As giggles rippled through the chamber, an aide shook Bunning, who woke with a start.

Bunning's nap was a fitting comment on how he and his Republican colleagues had received the efforts of the committee's chairman, Max Baucus (D-Mont.), to craft a bipartisan compromise on the mammoth legislation.

Jim Bunning has officially met the definition of "unproductive" per Obama's Death Panel.

1. Well, if that isn't a little microcosm
of the entire Repub ideology, then I don't know what is. Bipartisanship died between the two parties a long, long time ago.

3. I feel so deprived of my "freedom and liberties" when health care is more affordable for everyone.
How did he feel about warrantless wiretaps?

It's not only the deaf ear. It's the lame brain, the eyes that don't see, and the meme mouth.

4. Nothing new to see here. Bunning has been sleeping for YEARS.
He only wakes up when McConnell sends a flunky to poke him awake so he can vote whatever way McConnell tells him to. McConnell has been the only Senator in DC that actually got to vote twice on all matters. Of course, they have now parted as friends and Bunning is finally retiring. If the Kentucky Democratic Party really works this we can finally have a Democratic Senator representing us again.

One of our staff members if from Lexington, Ky. You're right. There's a good chance for a Dem- they gave McConnell a run for his money last time.
