A System of Abuse (Washington Post)
Wednesday, May 5, 2004; Page A28

SECRETARY OF Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld yesterday described the abuses of Iraqi prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison as "an exceptional, isolated" case. At best, that is only partly true.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2372-2004May4.html

-----------------

This is more than an editorial, it's gonna bring Rumsfeld down. It points directly to Rummy's decisions made two years ago as the foundation of Abu Ghraib. He blew off the Geneva Convention, didn't give a damn about the consequences, makes clear no guidelines were set nor followed, and that Abu Ghraib is indeed just one little incident in the whole sorry scheme. AG is just a "particularly harsh examples of the practices . . ."

1. The WaPo is a system of abuse against my candidate, John Kerry.

And yes, it is just an editorial (all though it ought not) because WaPo is GOP whore media.

2. I don't recall Kerry mentioned, but . . .
that's okay. I thought it was good in the sense that it does move the focus up the chain of command and does make clear that it's a systemic problem. The talking points for the regime are all around the six people and one isolated incident, with just the low-level people being court martialed. I think it should go higher than that.

4. American standards of decency
do we have those any more? I think we tossed those standards out the window a long time ago. A hellsfire and brimstone puritancal hatred of sex and a bloodlust for violence do not really conform with the notion of decency on any level.

decency

n 1: the quality of conforming to standards of propriety and morality 2: the quality of being polite and respectable

See, we just don't operate like that here anymore in 'Murika. It's all arrogance, condescension and bluster, and 'exporting death to the four corners of the world'. :-(
