Bob Herbert says it for me - a mistake |

"I hate war,” said Dwight Eisenhower, “as only a soldier who has lived it can, as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/01/opinion/01herbert.html?_r=1&em

3. Herbert, by himself? Gave us Bush? He was the only voter in 2000? |

6. He flogged the 'Gore as liar' routine. The op-ed page of the NYT is a big pulpit. nt |

7. Gore ran the third worst presidential campaign of my lifetime |
|
(after Mondale and Dukakis), and I had serious doubts about him anyway, with his being a founding member of the DLC and a supporter of the Contras. A founding member of the DLC is suddenly a big-time liberal? I don't buy that.
Bob Herbert, on the other hand, has been consistent in his promotion of the interests of the poor and disenfranchised and a sane foreign policy.

After the failed election, he decided to find another way around the obstacles to get what he wanted.

10. Yeah, it was Herbert's fault |
|
Not the stolen election in Florida Not the fact that corporate TV turned Gore into a caricature Not the fact that he ran a lackluster campaign Not the fact that he failed to let Clinton campaign for him Not the fact that he was remarkably quiet on his most powerful issue: global warming Not the fact that he was actually calling for a bigger increase in the defense budget than Bush was
Nope. It was Herbert's fault.
Phew. Life is so simple.
