Obama's plan for the orphaned Afghanistan war - public backs him: 51% to 40%

Rememeber Afghanistan? ....the war the Cheney administration threw money and men at and forgot about? President Obama's plan for the U.S. to actually be COMMITTED to trying to accomplish something in Afghanistan, rather than continue 8 yrs of dithering there, get's a 51% to 40% response from the public.

Thanks to eight years of neglect it's a helluva mess over there. But Obama is committed to trying to salvage something positive out of the mess left for him by the Cheney administration. He really had no good options, but he has stuck to his campaign promise to punish those who attacked us on 9/11 -- WOW, what a novel concept.

By 51%-40%, those surveyed say they favor the plan Obama outlined. On specific elements, however, there is little consensus:

1. It's fairly unusual for a war escalation to START with 40% opposition
If I were in the pro-war wing of the admin. I'd be nervous about that.

5. There was a jump of about 4% in support after his speech.
It was at 47% before.

4. Funny those polls...
they don't indicate that the 40% that oppose are Democrats and Independents.

6. Not all of them by a long shot
because there are the teabaggers who will voice opposition to everything Obama does just because he's the one doing it.
