Obama to GOP: 'Stop trying to frighten the American people'
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/71449-obama-to-gop-stop-trying-to-frighten-the-american-people

President Barack Obama told House Republican leaders to "stop trying to frighten the American people" even as he and Democrats said they see a possibility for bipartisan cooperation on job creation legislation.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters that Obama made the admonition during a bipartisan meeting at the White House on Wednesday, producing a chart to show Republicans that "things are a lot better."

Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said there was broad agreement on their side of the aisle about how to create jobs by aiding small businesses and boosting infrastructure spending. Pelosi said she thinks on those issues, "it's possible for us to find some common, bipartisan ground."

But moments later, Republicans made it clear that they want to see a "spending freeze" and a "no-cost" jobs plan that consists largely of tax cuts.

1. You Know what the GOP wants? No government so the wealthy can rule people
they hate democracy and the lower classes... their efforts prove it time and again, yet people actually vote for them. How incredibly stupid. I guess their concept of freedom is to be an indentured servant while the wealthy do as they plase, with NO RESTRICTIONS. They hate freedom, because if they did truly care about freedom, it would freedom for all, and not just the upper crust. All the GOP cares about is $$$$$$$, and those that have it.... talk about greedy sociopaths.

3. I don't know, are they trying to frighten us or is there good reason
to be frightened. They are cutting Medicare and I have never heard anyone deny it or give a adequate explanation for it. I don't blame seniors for being scared to death, I am 61 and I don't know what the f--- is going on either. Congress could screw up a two car funeral.

5. Politicking.
I mean, seriously.

I'm afraid. I might lose my health insurance. Swine flu. The banks may go belly up. Global warming is something to be afraid of. Running out of petroleum even if AGW doesn't hold up. Swine flu. Bisphenol A. Second hand smoke. Trans-fatty acids. Rampant hate crimes in the US. Without a stimulus I'll be unemployed and on the street. No safety net. Hell, I'm not afraid--I'm terrified!

Oh. Those aren't things that the repubs are telling me to be afraid of.

I'm supposed to look to the party in power to help me with insurance, give me vaccine, help stabilize the financial system, deal with CO2 emissions and help limit petroleum consumption, deal with contaminants in food, limit smoking and get rid of things like trans-fatty acids from my Big Mac and supersized French Fries; I look to increased legislation to make sure I'm not exposed to hate crimes and hate speech, and to the government to get the economy rolling again.

I would feel properly swaddled if not for the blankie-stealing repubs.

Things like the CBO's prognostication of reduced economic growth because of the deficit, worrying that with the money supply inflated if the multiplier increases and credit becomes easy they might not be able to stop rampant, savings-destroying inflation; having my wife's employer chuck her health insurance and doubts that the medical system could handle a 20% increase in workload, worrying that we won't be able to afford commuting or house cooling costs, etc., etc.--those are things I'm *not* supposed to be worried about.

It's really hard to keep it all straight.

6. Yeah, (I wish all those things to you) but the money for all this...
is gonna go to a few war profiteers here, and corrupt war lords in far distant and unwinnable wars.

Can't we just secure all borders and save the rest to do all those important tasks before the empire collapses?

No.

Why??

7. "Spending freeze" + "No-cost jobs plan"
= the relegalization of slavery. Slavery costs employers masters nothing to hire own a(n) employee slave.

That's a no-cost jobs plan Repukes can get on board with. :puke:
