Nation's Largest Union: Change Health Care Bill Or Else
" this health care bill to be worthy of the support of working men and women, substantial changes must be made," said Trumka. "The AFL-CIO intends to fight on behalf of all working families to make those changes and win health care reform that is deserving of the name."

"President Obama must remember his own words from the campaign. His call of 'Yes We Can' was not just to us, not just to the millions of people who voted for him, but to himself. We all stood shoulder to shoulder with the President during his hard fought campaign. And, we will continue to stand with him but he must fight for the reform we all know is possible," Stern wrote.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/17/seiu-urges-changes-in-sen_n_395411.html

1. k&r for labor. n/t

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

4. Here is a video of Obama in 2003 saying he is a proponent of single payer at a AFL-CIO
conference. He says some very encouraging statements here. Obama IN HIS OWN WORDS saying His Health Care Plan will ELIMINATE private insurance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-bY92mcOdk&feature=player_embedded

6. AMA
I always thought the AMA was the nation´s largest union. Certainly the most powerful.

11. trade union
Well, its members pay fees, and the AMA controls the number of seats in medical schools in the US, thereby controling the supply of new doctors entering the field, and ensuring that market-based fees for medicine will be at the very highest level, always outstripping the rate of inflation. Because professionals are given God-like status in our society, I don´t think the AMA´s membership would categorize it as a union. Nonetheless, the state of the medical industry vs the state of the auto industry would indicate that the AMA is a good bit more powerful than the UAW.

10. The so-called health care reform bill now before the Senate, with the addition
of Majority Leader Harry Reid's Manager's Amendment, amounts to a health insurance bill for half the population and a sweeping anti-abortion law for the rest of us. And by the way, it's the rest of us who voted the current leadership into both houses of Congress.http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/144690/health_care_reform_is_not_reform_if_it_denies_women_

12. They may be the largest union, however the strongest union
in my opinion is SEIU.....their "take no prisoners" MO intimidates many politicians.

learned how to walk forward. Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was ahead of his time.

16. No wonder the TV millionaires....
.... are always warning us about the dangers of joining a union!

We must all keep up this fight until we get what every American needs - and deserves.

ONWARD! :patriot:
