Just how "broad" is the appeal of the Tea Party Movement and its *message*
Whenever a "teabagger" or somebody supporting the Tea Party Movement is interviewed and asked about the appeal of their movement, they claim that they are not a "fringe" movement and that they have broad support from people whom are Republican, Independent, and even some Democrats- united by their common cause of.......whatever- but, frankly, I haven't heard from a one of them (so far) who seems like they could be (if they ever were) a Democrat because most of them seem to only spout right wing memes and talking points about government, Democrats, President Obama. Does anybody know any bonafide Democrats whom support the Tea Party Movement and/or its goals? I suppose that maybe some Conservadems might be supportive of the "teabaggers" but even most Conservadems are not quite as strident as the "teabaggers" in terms of their anti-government spending rhetoric. As far as I can tell, the Tea Party movement seems to mostly consist of disaffected Republicans, Libertarians, former Ross Perot supporters, and other assorted right-wingers. Anybody know any Democrats whom are actively involved in the Tea Party movement and if so, what is their rationale for supporting it?

1. it appeals to media which gives it too much coverage for its true weight and of course
there does not seem to be an effective counterstrategy from dems, who could point out the obvious, that teabaggers et al are just another fear of a black president movement.

If i was a dem strategist those clips of deMint etc calling for Obama's waterloo etc would be played all over the place as part of a coordinated campaign to tie the republican brand name to it.

3. The appeal of right wing politics is driven by fear
Fear of losing what one already has to another group that appears to the teabaggers as undeserving. It not so much that the uninsured will be able to get health care, it's that illegal aliens will get health care. Somehow even though illegals work hard, maybe even harder than most, they don't deserve the same rights as others. Maybe the work ethic of these individuals is what scares them the most, as I see conservatives as basically lazy and have a huge sense of entitlement.

The saying "fuck you I've got mine" seems to be the teabagger motto.

The book What's the Matter with Kansas comes to mind.

4. it's annoying that a handful of right wing cranks could get more coverage than massive
anti-war demostrations.

6. I know many people that claim to be Democrats but
have never voted for a Democrat since JFK. Those people claim they didn't cease to be Democrats but the party left them. Democrats supported Civil Rights Legislation that's when the Democratic party betrayed them.

7. The same 25% that keeps showing up
In polls that leave the rest of us scratching our heads and wondering "Who still believes that?"

Spammers would kill for a mailing list of them.
