The Curious Incident of the Republicans in the Night-time

Inspector Gregory: “Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?”

Sherlock Holmes: “To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.”

Inspector Gregory: “The dog did nothing in the night-time.”

Sherlock Holmes: “That was the curious incident.”

– from “Silver Blaze” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

As Eli and TBogg have mentioned, dear old Weepin’ Joe Lieberman, who never passes up an opportunity to stick a shiv into the Democratic presidents who he publicly calls his friends, is at it again — this time engaging in some Republican-aiding histrionics over the Fruit of the Loom bomber, calling for Janet Napolitano’s head even though the would-be bomber was easily subdued by his fellow passengers.

Funnily enough, I looked at the Crooks and Liars timeline for the very similar Richard Reid shoe-bomb attempt in December of 2001 — an attempt that, like the underwear idiot’s, was foiled with laughable ease — and guess what? I didn’t see any indication that Lieberman or his Republican fellow travelers John McCain and Lindsey Graham had called for any Bush White House official to resign over this. A quick follow-up on Google also failed to find any Lieberman condemnation of Bush personnel over this incident. Then again, Lieberman didn’t call for any Bushies to resign over the far more serious 9/11 attacks, so I guess this shouldn’t be too surprising.

But here’s something else: Isn’t it interesting that Dangerstein/Lieberman and their Republican friends John McCain and Lindsey Graham are willing to go after Napolitano, when Rahm Emanuel is a much bigger and higher-value target? Plus, Emanuel would seem to be a tad more vulnerable than Napolitano: Not only is he in danger from Dennis Kucinich, he’s also in danger from Rod Blagojevich — who has no real incentives at this point to be nice to his fellow former Chicago pol and ally Rahm when his trial starts in June.

Funny that Lieberman, who made a point of backstabbing Bill Clinton in the name of pious integrity, isn’t going after Rahm for crimes that, if committed, would be of far more import than blowjobs from a woman who wasn’t one’s wife.

2. If we agree to bomb Yemen in exchange for Medicare expansion - then filibuster the Yemen
bombing at the very last minute - you'd think he'd get it?
