Beloved Haiti
Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 05:49 PM by bemildred
A blast from the past, please take note of the date.

As I write this there is an attempt to start a civil war in Haiti, engineered in the United States of America and supported by its lapdogs in Caricom and the Organization of American States. Former Haitian military men who have received "some form" of training and logistical support while hiding out in the neighboring US semi-colony, the Dominican Republic, are systematically attacking the Haitian National Police at primary strategic points along the entire route from Port-au-Prince to the Dominican Border near Ouanaminthe. Only Cap Haitien has not fallen so far as St Marc, Gonaives, and Trou du Nord a town at a key bridge between the border and Cap Haitien has been ransacked by right-wing paramilitaries, who are the armed wing of a US-funded "opposition" that cloaks itself in the name Convergence Democratique, and now falsely claims no connection with this activity.

The main road between Port-au-Prince to St. Marc to Gonaives to Cap Haitien to Trou du Nord to Ouanaminthe is often the only passable route cross country, and these seizures have effectively cut off the western coastal towns from the capital and isolated Cap Haitien, the second largest city in Haiti. At last word, these former Haitian military units--some of the same ones who worked for the notorious Duvaliers and for the savage Cedras-Francois junta--have abandoned St. Marc.

The ridiculous names like Gonaives Resistance Front that these right-wing paramilitaries have assigned themselves are already being echoed in the capitalist press, which also refers to them, idiotically, as "rebels," and to their activities as the activities of "crowds." A contact I spoke with hours ago who returned from Port-au-Prince today told me that the real crowds are those who are fleeing these fascist coup operations in the North and the massive PRO-Aristide demonstrations in the capital. This contact said the situation here is very similar in many respects to the US-supported attempt to overthrow another democratically elected government, that of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

The paramilitaries have opened ships and stores for looting, capitalizing on the desperate poverty and hunger of Haitians to direct the energy of masses into looting, in order to neutralize them politically. But it has only worked locally. My contact said that contrary to what's going on here, the Haitian masses are "crystal clear" that this is a US-supported coup attempt.

3. You're right
But I'm inclined to believe this. Given Haiti's disfunctional political history, it's probably inevitable that some would see this disaster as an opportunity to sieze power.

5. I remember reading Stan Goff then, as many of us watched this thing bearing down on Haiti.
It would really be good to know how Tinoire, who had been born, I think, in Haiti is getting through this, having connections to Haiti throughout her whole life even after she moved to the States.

She's really missed here, as a brilliant, magnetic, wonderful poster with whom we all waited in dread knowing what was coming. I don't think she stayed her long after that hideous overthrow, and she was literally beaten down, and exhausted by then.

Stan Goff's communications were appreciated greatly at that time.

Thanks for this great reminder.

6. Haiti occupation
Something smells bad in Haiti. This is not just the smell of rotting corpses or buildings destroyed by the terrible earthquake that happened last week. It was not enough for President Barack Obama to continue the militarization of foreign policy of his country. Now he proceeded to another military occupation of Haiti cynically used the tragedy that occurred there.

Washington sent 10 000 troops, not only for humanitarian assistance, but also to subdue this country. At this point the U.S. unilaterally declared Haiti a failed state, where it is necessary to get involve with external management.

And it is really height of cynicism the fact that coordinate "humanitarian efforts" of U.S. troops Obama asked not only to former President Bill Clinton, but also his predecessor, George Bush Jr. who was incompetence in matters of national security. Let's recall the tragedy in New Orleans, do you remember what happened there?

Neo-liberals led by Milton Friedman (Milton Friedman) is unlikely to be able to come up with something better: use the crisis to achieve the political goals. We are witnessing the fact that the Canadian researcher Naomi Klein, aptly described as "shock doctrine".
So the question is who is ruling in Haiti now?

“We should help Haiti but not to occupy it” - said Alain Joynanet the Secretary of State for Cooperation once visited Port-au-Prince and was faced with obstacles by American Troops. Actually they took control of the international airport in the capital of Haiti

In this case France joined Venezuela and Nicaragua and appealed to the United Nations asking a clear definition of the nature of the current U.S. presence in Haiti.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez criticized the militaristic orientation of the humanitarian efforts by the United States: “There is no need to send the troops there… Haiti needs a doctors. Obama, the people of Haiti do not need money they need food, drinking water and medicines.” Venezuela and Cuba have sent a group of doctors and rescue workers in Haiti.

The Venezuelan Government, together with Russia, organized an airlift of solidarity for Haiti. Moscow contributed two cargo aircraft IL-76 carrying capacity of 40 tons each. Chavez pledged to provide Haiti with the the necessary amount of fuel.

The concerns of France, Venezuela and Nicaragua got its development in the statements of Minister of Defense of Brazil, he said that the current occupation will last "at least another five years." Brazil commands the UN peacekeeping force numbering 6 700 employees stationed in Haiti at the same time 10 000 U.S. military would be subject only to Washington. Judging by the complete control established over the capital's airport, the U.S. reduced the role of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah) to the solution exclusively support tasks.

With regard to giving special rights of the current president of Haiti, René Préval U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton even stated that "in fact, these rights would have to be made available to us."

U.S. is afraid of social explosion that can occur at any time due to lack of water, food and medicines, and preparing for the possibility to contain or suppress it by using forceful means.
That is why the humanitarian operation run by the State Department and the Ministry of Defense of the United States. Do you know who is in charge of the whole operation? - United States Southern Command (The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), located in Miami, Florida, is one of ten unified Combatant Commands (COCOMs) in the Department of Defense. It is responsible for providing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation for Central and South America, the Caribbean (except U.S. commonwealths, territories, and possessions), Cuba; as well as for the force protection of w:st="on"U.S. military resources at these locations. SOUTHCOM is also responsible for ensuring the defense of the Panama Canal and canal area.) So basically the main task of this organization is "to guide military operations and the strengthening of security cooperation to achieve U.S. strategic objectives".
And of course don't forget about U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), civic organization that used as a cover for military and intelligence operations abroad.

The report of the Heritage Foundation says: ” The United States should consider an earthquake as a humanitarian aspect and from the standpoint of national security that requires a quick response, not only courageous, but determined, with the involvement of all civil, military and government resources for rescue and assist victims and long-term program of rehabilitation and reform in Haiti”

We should pay attention to interventionist aspirations, characterized the entire history of U.S. relations with Haiti, starting with military invasions and support of the criminal dictatorship of the Duvalier and attempts to establish a neocolonial tutelage over civilian governments, as it was with the President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The most recent example - President Preval, a Socialist who was not good for Washington.

With the help of international organizations such as the World Bank or International Monetary Fund USA blocked a few trues of Préval to run the necessary social and economic reforms. And it has to be the reason why the report the Heritage Foundation says: “The government of René Préval was weak and is literally plunged into chaos. It is possible that Cuba and Venezuela, have already tried to reduce U.S. influence in the region, will try to take this opportunity to raise their prestige and influence in region.” Do not forget that Haiti is a member of the oil organization In addition, a system known as Project HAARP will also cause abnormal climatic events: floods, droughts, hurricanes.Petrocaribe, one of the structural units of ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas).

And if you still don't believe in the facts about the U.S. role in the unprecedented tragedy in Haiti, read the following fact: on January 19 this year, Spanish news agency EFE announced a message with a link to a report prepared by specialists of the Northern Fleet of Russia. The report of the Northern Fleet argues that the earthquake transformed Haiti into ruins, was the result of testing one type of "weapons", conducted by the Navy United States. This "weapon" can cause earthquakes and planned to use against Iran, thus provoking the fall of the Islamic regime.

According to a report published by EFE, the report of the Russian sailors based on the monitoring of the Naval Forces of the United States in the Caribbean Sea after the recent resumption of their IV Fleet. According to the report, since the late 70-ies of the last century, the U.S. has strengthened the development of weapons, causing an earthquake and now have at their disposal equipment based on the latest technology using electromagnetic waves, as well as bombs, creating shock waves. In addition, a system known as Project HAARP will also cause abnormal climatic events: floods, droughts, hurricanes.

Spanish Agency explained: “There is a comparison of two tests of this weapon in the report. Testing in the Pacific has caused an earthquake measuring 5.6 points in the vicinity of the town of Eureka (California), but has not resulted in casualties. And the test in the Caribbean Sea caused the death of at least 140 000 or the innocent people.“

EFE said that, according to the report Russia's Northern Fleet Specialists, "more than likely" that the Naval Forces of the United States had "full understanding" about the catastrophic consequences that might result for Haiti.

Carlos Rivera Lugo: Head of the Department of Philosophy and Theory of Law and State Law School named after Eugenio Eugenio María de Hostos in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Is also a member of the Board and a permanent member of Puerto Rican daily newspaper "Claridad".
