If you prick a corporation, will it bleed? The High Court thinks so (Kelso | The Statesman)

... On Thursday, the court voted 5-4 that corporations can throw as much money as they want to back or oppose candidates in elections.

The decision is based on the concept that corporations have the right to freedom of speech.

When the men who put this country together back in the 1700s decided that freedom of speech should be guaranteed, I'm pretty darned sure they were thinking that the people doing the speaking would be people. You know, living, breathing human beings who do things like, you know, help a kid do his math homework ...

As far as I know, there were no corporations way back when this country was started up and the idea of protecting a person's right to say what he wants was concocted. So the nation's founders couldn't have been considering, say, Halliburton's right to buy all the TV ads it wants for, say, whoever is running and is the least likely to mess with, say, Halliburton ...
