Americans Afraid to Fight the Powers That Be |
|
American mythology holds that citizens of the U.S. of A. are fighters, ever ready to defend themselves from tyrants of all kinds. But there's been little evidence of that in the current crisis. “While Greeks and Icelanders register disapproval with the people and institutions who bring them disaster, Americans behave as if they aren’t being mistreated at all.” http://www.blackagendareport.com/?q=content/freedom-rider-americans-afraid-fight-powers-be

Unpatriotic and being shunned. Hopefully in time this will be overcome.

Not sure why. I think part of it is that Obama and the dems managed to corral some anger into the democratic movement while the GOP is trying to corral the teabag movement.
However, I think when the teabaggers become disenchanted with the GOP and people on the left become disenchanted by the dems, you might see some popular revolts.
My impression is that all the rage, anger, frustration, etc was co-opted by the Obama admin by them saying 'elect us and we'll act on your rage'. But now that we are realizing we were had and that the Obama admin is engaging in the same behavior they ran against (refusing to stand up to plutocrats, refusing to stand up for people being screwed), the anger is still there and building again.

3. That's not entirely true. Polls show that people are upset over the banksters |
|
and 2008 saw an upsurge in people who voted in the Prez election.
Americans use the political system first but when the politicians we elect backtrack on their promises of change, Americans do register their displeasure. The reason Scott Brown got elected was because people were ticked off over the Democrats and wanted to send a message to Obama and the Dem leadership in MA and Washington D.C..
Our political system is a "winner take all" system and that doesn't allow for a variety of voices in our elected bodies.

I have read a lot of posts by unhappy Americans...I have seen people trying to march..we write,.. we call..... we wave the damned signs...we even voted... They are NOT listening...
To make it worse, they have announced they are upping the dose of fluoride in our water to keep us docile...and it is working I see.
Well I have tried to tell people we have not hit bottom yet...and here comes another big bust.
Maybe someday we will wake up as a Nation but it isn't going to happen today.
Other Nations people go on strike and shut down the government. We, on the other hand, sit in our homes typing out our rage on computers and wonder why this keeps going downhill.
Get up...get out..and DO something. Join anyone in your area that has the balls to protest on the issues that matter to you. Go to city hall meetings and speak out...loudly.
Keep calling and writing too :) every little bit will help.
Save our Nation.
