India Adds IT Jobs Despite Recession
Mar 4, 2010 8:00 am

India added 487,000 jobs in its IT and BPO (business process outsourcing) export industries in the quarter ended Dec. 31, despite the global recession, according to a Quarterly Quick Employment Survey by the country's labor bureau.

The survey was conducted to assess the impact of the economic slowdown on employment in India.

The results, released Thursday, found that of a total of 638,000 jobs added across the economy, 580,000 were in the exports sector. IT services and BPO exporters led the pack.

Besides Indian service providers, a large number of multinational companies like IBM and Accenture have set up IT services and BPO operations in the country, that service both the Indian market and markets abroad. Most of India's IT and BPO exports go to the U.S. and the U.K.

In January this year, a large number of Indian outsourcers, including the largest, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and the second largest, Infosys Technologies, reported plans to increase hiring in anticipation of improved business conditions.

2. And the US wonders why the unemployment rate HERE is either not budging or is increasing?
Well. DUH.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM that Obama isn't dealing with and the ONLY thing that will help - is curbing outsourcing and H1-B visas and REQUIRING these greedy corprat ba$tards to HIRE AMERICANS for those jobs at a LIVING WAGE. NO sending them to China, India or Mexico and NO hiring foreign workers HERE at dirt wages for them.

HE SAID that "NAFTA needs to be fixed" when he was running for office. Fine and dandy. WHEN is he going to "fix" it? I assert that it ought to be ABOLISHED along with CAFTA etc.

Of course Mr. Pretty Talker SAID a LOT of things when he was running for President, didn't he?

THE PROBLEM: lack of political will supported by the the flurry of $$$$ going in and out the revolving door between government and business/industry.

THE RESULT: Americans are SCREWED and unemployment remains high until and unless this is dealt with.

DUH. Pfft.

3. Well, America got what it claimed it wanted.
Americans have often claimed they wanted to spread democracy and capitalism around the world.

So here you are. India is democratic and capitalist.

And free-market forces prevail.
