Leinenkugel Will Launch Campaign Monday

MADISON, Wis. -- Former state Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel is expected to announce next week that he's entering the U.S. Senate race to challenge the Democratic incumbent, Russ Feingold.

A statement released Friday said Leinenkugel will launch his campaign Monday in Janesville, Feingold's hometown.

Leinenkugel previously reserved the Web address http://leinenkugelforsenate.com. The website was password-protected and inaccessible Friday.

Leinenkugel would become the third GOP candidate in the race. The other two are Madison real estate developer Terrence Wall and Watertown small-businessman Dave Westlake.

Also mulling a run is Republican businessman Ron Johnson. Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson ended months of speculation last week by declining to run.
