New poll full of bad news for Democrats
New poll full of bad news for Democrats

Democrats already knew they were facing a tough Election Day this November, but new poll numbers out tonight show the party has lost significant ground with a crucial voting bloc. The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds that self-described independent voters, credited with helping Democrats take control of Congress in 2006, have switched their allegiance to Republicans.

According to the poll, 38 percent of so-called independents say they will vote for Republicans this November, with only 30 percent for Democrats. Four years ago, ahead of the '06 midterms, the same poll found that 40 percent of independents favored Democrats, with only 24 percent for Republicans.

Asked which of the two major parties should control Congress, respondents were deadlocked. But when asking only voters most interested in the outcome this November, 56 percent supported the GOP and only 36 percent supported the Dems. That's the largest split in more than a year.

Yes, Republicans shouldn't rest easy. While the poll suggests the GOP is on the verge of a comeback, it also measured a strong anti-incumbent feeling toward both parties. Among those surveyed, only 21 percent said they approve of the job Congress is doing, while 72 percent gave a thumbs-down. (By comparison, President Obama's job rating is virtually unchanged, with a 50 percent approval rating.)

1. Translation: Making campaign promises are easy
Actually following through on those promises requires a spine.

4. Translation- WSJ & NBC attempting to influence public opinion and not reflect it
Where the Democrats will have trouble this will be with turning out their base.

19. If the base doesn't turn out, it'll be because they'll all be at home on
election day pulling the knives out of their backs.

and you legislate like Republicans it is hard for the base to get excited about you.

2. How pathetic that the party of NO--the party BLOCKING EVERYTHING in Congress
is the one people feel is most deserving of controlling Congress.

Have people forgotten which party created this mess just a short two years ago?

Are people so stupid that they can't figure out the mess in the Gulf is another result of deregulation and allowing corporations to do as they want?

If people really feel the party of Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, and their ilk deserve to control Congress, those people truly deserve the government they get. The rest of us are smarter than that, and deserve better.

6. What they remember is that nobody blocked them when THEY were in power.
So the Democrats come off looking like spineless morons in comparison.

And as long as some of you believe you are superior to everyone else, the Democrats will continue to look like nothing anyone wants.

15. They control the media.
The people have forgotten because the media has been focusing on every possible criticism of Obama and the Democrats. This is perfectly obvious. The American people are not immune to such a massive propaganda effort.

20. They're not stupid. It's not that people think the Republicans are so great, it's that
the Democrats have managed to make the electorate go from unheard-of excitement and enthusiasm to being heartily sick of them in a year and a half. And I don't think that's unjustified. Every time the Democrats have had the chance to choose between helping Big Money or helping the people, they've told the people to suck it.

Somebody tell me why I should be worried about a Republican majority again?

the Democrats have shown themselves to be, Republicans have proven to be even worse.

But few Democrats deserve reelection, in my opinion. They have not been tough enough on Wall Street and they have not questioned the wisdom of escalating the war and have done nothing to counter the Citizens United decision. What good are they? They voted against the Brown Amendment. What good are they? Does Obama deserve reelection? No way.

5. What does "most interested in the outcome" mean?
Does it mean the majority of voters have decided there is no fucking difference for whom we vote because Wall Street and Big Oil and Big Pharma still win? does it mean they are underwhelmed how a Democratic majority come up with such shitspit bills and then brag about them?

10. Maybe because they don't see any difference up until now?
Maybe they want to sort of 'send a clear message' through these polls that if the Democratic Party does not start to deliver on their 2006 campaing promises - you know, that little "we will END these wars" pony-thingy - that they won't vote for them next time?

To many honest people, promises mean somethin'.

11. Ask the nit wits here in Michigan who are playing blame it on Jenny while ignoring
that the R's here have done nothing but block block block. Though it is rather amusing to watch the ads for R's around the state as none of the R's are saying what party they are in, but when the ad starts off with " I was a hard working businessman for 20 years", you have a good ideal which party backs them. Like business people are something special, btw, why is it they say they are business people, yet, outside of Scamway Dick, very few mention their business name?

12. Because he ran as a democrat? But they wont reelect him once they see how
he governs, and they'll examine the next product so labelled much more carefully next time.

People voted for Progressive Liberal Action, Yes they were wrong to think Obama promised that, but it does not change the policies they wanted and voted to get.

Democrats who think that voters were voting for what is being delivered deserve the disappointment coming.

To save the party we need to keep the constituency and fire almost all of the current elected officials for non-performance. Primary choices are the only hope.

16. You are right!
The American people did not vote for Democrats in 2006 and 2008 imagining they were voting for a rightward policy move. This would make no sense. Of course we will NEVER hear this from the M$M as it is not part of the agenda.
