incompetent politicians. Stop failing Arizona; Start fixing immigration Arizona politicians are pandering to public fear. The result is a state law that intimidates Latinos while doing nothing to curb illegal immigration Read more: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/05/01/20100501arizona-immigration-problem.html#ixzz0o2KM8vsy

1. I kinda think intimidating Latinos is the real purpose of the law |
|
A lot of the people who support this POS law don't make a distinction between illegal immigrants, legal immigrants, or multi generational US citizens of Hispanic descent. They just want to get rid of all of them.

It also keeps the noisy, belligerent wingers focused on the scapegoats instead of giving them time to notice that the rich and infamous are the authors of their declining lifestyles.

The republicans can say adios to the Latino vote. If not now, soon. Our numbers are strong.

4. But failed to point out that the AZ. legislature is on the ball concerning other crucial issues: |

• "Senate Bill 1307, which bans human-animal hybrids. It won narrow approval in both chambers of the Legislature this week." I know I'm breathing a big sigh of relief... Read more: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/05/01/20100501arizona-immigration-problem.html#ixzz0o2dbm521

9. Good editorial, a little weak on suggestions, but the last part has promise, |
|
in my humble opinion.
----- Reform must create a legal pipeline for future workers that is demand-based and temporary. With a legal framework in place, there will be no reason to be in this country without permission. Foreigners who break our laws will be prosecuted, punished and deported.
Comprehensive reform will make the border safer. When migrant labor is channeled through the legal ports of entry, the Border Patrol can focus on catching drug smugglers and other criminals instead of chasing busboys across the desert. ----
Ultimately, the real solution, perhaps, will be to just establish various types of work permits for the work that is currently being done by non-citizens. I don't know the exact list and numbers, but it seems like commonly accepted (and likely true) that much farm labor, bus-boy, dishwasher, construction labor, housework, child-care is done by persons without proper work permits. If we just started being honest about the fact that we are not willing to pay the level of wages probably demanded by those with better immigration status for these jobs and issued work permits, then the same people would still be doing the same jobs, but the tension would be a lot less. Of course, pay scales would probably go up some, since the intimidation factor would be less, but I tend to think things would pretty much function the way the do now, but without the border tensions.

10. Besides intimidating Latinos |
|
They are making sure the Latinos aren't there come election time. I think this whole thing is related to the 2010 election. How many Latinos are going to show up to vote if they think they might get arrested? My guess NONE.
