John Edwards Plea Deal To Avoid Jail Time In The Works, National Enquirer Reports

Disgraced politician John Edwards is seeking a plea deal with federal authorities in order to avoid serving any time in prison, the National Enquirer reports. Edwards is under investigation by the FBI and the IRS for campaign violations regarding payments to his former mistress Rielle Hunter.

Edwards is "terrified" of going to jail, according to the Enquirer source, and "he's willing to cop to a misdemeanor charge" to avoid jail time, but "is asking to keep his law license."

This is just the latest revelation in a scandal that refuses to go away. Rielle Hunter recently went on Oprah to dish about her relationship with Edwards, confirming among other things that the couple made a graphic sex tape.

Former Edwards confidante Andrew Young, who initially tried to cover for his boss by falsely claiming paternity of Edwards' love child with Hunter, accused Hunter of lying in the Oprah interview in an effort to "deflect blame" from herself.

DU is primarily a political board, so here is my political take on this: we are so lucky that Edwards dropped out of the primaries when he did. It would have been catastrophic for the country had Edwards become the Democratic nominee, only to have this scandal hit before the elections. We would have McCain in the White House, and Palin as Vice President.

12. "Work"???
I'd use another four-letter word to describe what he's a piece of.

4. What kind of shit hole are we living in anyway?
Edwards is being investigated and might go to prison for...CAMPAIGN SPENDING VIOLATIONS, while Bush, Cheney, and their gang are running free to enjoy the billions they stole, and reminisce about how many people they killed in illegal wars.

have no use for him. I have a hard time understanding how any laws can be enacted upon with Bush/Cheney et. all walking around with freedoms.

7. Obama Administration refused to prosecute Bush Administration law breakers
that is the difference from the Edwards case--using campaign funds for hush money.

14. Even in a story about Edwards, you find a way to offer up criticism of Obama.

8. Have you gone to national enquirer and done a search for Obama?
You can't have it both ways; reliable about Edwards and unreliable about Obama. I choose not to believe National Enquirer. I have never bought their magazine and never will. Period. I don't know why others have a need to believe them.

10. Enquirer deserved a Pulitzer for breaking the Edwards story while MSM missed the boat
I am not among those that have posted on this board that the Enquirer is reliable about Edwards and unreliable about Obama. The Enquirer is what it is. If they have the scoop, and the photos to go with it, then they got the story right!

13. Good for him, if this is true
Then he can stop pretending to marry that spaced-out goofy woman, Rielle Hunter, since he won't have to marry her to stop her from testifying against him.

It'll all just come out in her book, and she can be on Oprah's show again. Bread and circuses...
