Bush's cynical fund raising

George W. Bush flew to Nashville last week to deliver a quick address about the need to develop electronic medical record keeping systems. He could, of course, have made his remarks anywhere. Why Nashville? Could it have been the $1.7 million fund-raiser for the Republican Party that he was scheduled to attend at the home of banker and insurance executive Clay Jackson?

Bush aides say "no," even though the president hightailed it over to Jackson's mansion just as soon as he finished his speech.

Bush aides say there was nothing political about the Nashville trip. So, as has been the case with so many Bush fund-raising swings, the taxpayers picked up the tab.
