Indeed, if the White House is truly the champion of human rights that it purports to be, and if President George W. Bush and Rumsfeld were truly as shocked and surprised as every other right-thinking person on the planet at the torture that was being meted out at Abu Ghraib – and not merely at being found out – then they should be thanking the humble little cellphone camera for playing such a pivotal role in exposing these heinous acts.
And the soldier who leaked the pictures to the press? He should be awarded the Medal of Honour.
