And the first major payout from the BP Oil Spill Fund goes to...realtors
The first major payout from the BP Oil Spill Fund has been announced and it will go to realtors who say the disaster has hurt their income.

According to Florida Realtors, the 115,000 member organization that represents real estate professionals in Florida, $16 million would now be available to pay claims to real estate professionals in the state.

“This is great news for Realtors and real estate professionals in Florida, as well as those in our neighboring Gulf Coast states, who are suffering from the loss of their livelihood because of the oil spill crisis,” said 2010 Florida Realtors President Wendell Davis, a broker with Watson Realty Corp. in Jacksonville in a statement.

It is the American Way. Take care of big business first.

1. Weren't realtors already in big trouble prior to the spill? ESP. In FL....
Seems unfair, to say the least.

3. Yes they were. And in Florida there were so many fraudulent banksters
pushing bad loans and inflated real estate prices that I don't see how it is possible that BP has determined this claim to be valid on the very first day it opened the BP Gulf Oil Fund.

2. And to Florida Realtors at that. Seems a tad odd to me.

4. I'm a Michigan Realtor and I find it very odd.
The prices in FL had already bottomed out. Much like here, we may be selling the same amount of properties, but the prices are down by 2/3 in some cases. At the same time, unethical practices and uncooperative banksters are making our jobs twice as hard. But to give money to Realtors before fisherman? I'd say RPAC had something to do with it.
