"The Economics of US Military Interventions: Part Two – Effectiveness"
(This is a very interesting read, on many levels)

The Economics of US Military Interventions: Part Two – Effectiveness
Morss Global Finance

Introduction

This is the second in a two-part series on the economics of US military interventions. The first part provided cost and fatality numbers of past and current wars. This one focuses on the most recent interventions – Afghanistan and Iraq. It asks if these wars have contributed to achieving America’s global strategy objectives.

For this article, I have again asked Jerry Silverman to help me address these issues. Jerry has worked overseas for most of his career and has written extensively on foreign policy issues. He wrote on the Afghanistan situation in a “National Interest” piece.

The following assessments of Afghanistan and Iraq each have two parts: motivation for intervention and what is happening now. The article ends with a broader discussion of what should be done moving forward.

2. There's more to this article than what you say: "We Did Not Leave"
although "our leaving" really is the crux of the article.

I know it's a bit of a long read...but it was so interesting, that I figured some DU'ers in this Forum might want to Bookmark to come back.

It's truly a very interesting article. And, we here in "Editorial Forum" like to take more time to read and ponder and digest than on the other forums.

I hope folks will give this article a look....

3. I've read a lot of this kind of stuff, I may get around to this one too.
I'm already on the same page though, I think. I don't really think war "works" anymore.

In the end NATO/US wil leave Afghanistan - as everyone else, empires and nations have been doing for the last 2500 year.. The afghans have survived more empires than they want to recount...

And as faster we got our troops out of Afghanistan, the better it is, the sad part of it all is, that the afghans wil have to pay for it, when the extremes are coming into power again

4. The "wars" are draining us down.. It was good to see some intelligent push back
that's out there now that most of the other voices have been silenced or silenced themselves when Obama won the Presidency. We need new voices and the person who wrote the article is writing about war from a "Financial" perspective.

Those of us who opposed Iraq Invasion and wanted Afghanistan to be a "Police Action" rather than Invasion/Occupation for 9 years...need some help from financial community talking about the "COSTS OF WAR" in these terrible times when our "Empire" is on the verge of being over extended.

Marching on DC doesn't work anymore. We need reasoned folks with good credentials to pound away at how this is going to bring down American way of life if we don't WAKE UP...
