Could an Unemployment Extension Tier V 99ers Movement Change the GOP’s Mind?
Could an unemployment extension Tier V 99er movement change the GOP’s mind? Just as the Tea Party has promised to change the landscape of American Politics, so too could an unemployment extension movement.

The 99ers are a strong-willed group of individuals. It’s something that is very commendable. After all, they have to fight for what they think is right, as nothing will just be handed to them.

A Tier V extension is arguably the only thing that makes sense right now for millions of American workers. Corporate downsizing, outsourcing, and the lackluster economy in general has created a nightmare for the job applicant pool.

The GOP is against using deficit spending to fund a Tier V extension, although they would be willing to add to the deficit to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. The worst part is, the party will be able to stall things up for families in need of money.

1. Tier V exists in a way
Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 03:59 PM by LandR
In most states there are twenty weeks of state benefits after tier 4 is exhausted. Whoever qualifies for this also qualifies for the federal emergency $25 per week too. So in a way a Tier V already exists.

2. That's not a tier five and is included in the 99 weeks of benefits. The $25.00 was stripped out
in the last extension.

No tier 5 and we will enter a depression.

4. your right
yeah your right I was wrong on the dates I cited - my bad. But another thing to consider about a tier V is that it is not politically suave to extend unemployment benefits, especially with the stereotypes of Democrats. In order to avoid this problem, perhaps the 4th tier would be lengthened instead of creating a new tier.

3. Trust me when I say this!!!
A Tier 5, 99er movement is already under way. In fact, I think this will be the next topic on my "Reach Out Job Search" radio show on Thursday. Leaders like Rob G. Michael Thorton, Paladette, Clancy on Twitter, Wendy, UWAG (Underemployed Workers Action Group), Cindy P., myself and many others are active in the 99ers movement. I do believe we need to start a Political Action Group and will pass the word.

Thanks for the article.

Monica
